Would a single hardware shortcoming stop you from buying a device?

So far... surprising. Of the two areas I thought WOULD make people walk away from a device, one is polling fairly low. A couple of the ones I thought weren't important are actually appearing very important. And the one I read so much about that I mentioned in the first post of this thread is doing about what I thought.

As for my wager? Sigh... verdict still out. Dang it people, be psychic and help me win!!!

Sorry, I cannot be psychic. :(

Good luck, though.

Yeah, well why not? Dang it, Laura. Get out the crystal ball!!

In all reality, my two cohorts (both iPhone fans that are contractors) can't claim victory either yet. We all agreed to see what WP Central said, and biggest losers buy lunch.

Couple more days, and we will see if ham & cheese is on them or not...

Screen size too big. Once you get much past the point where a phone cannot be easily operated one-handed and it's big enough to feel like a paperback book in your front pocket, I start losing interest.

I'm thinking the Lumia 920 is going to be dangerously close to that threshold, but I really do want one so I'm going to wait and hope for the best. If nothing else, I'll get an 810 or 820 or wait another year to see if Nokia makes a slightly smaller and lighter phone with similar specs to the 920.

More than likely they won't though and I'll just deal with it. But I really ****ING hate this trend towards gigantic phones. Anyone who doesn't want a TV set sized phone gets relegated to the iPhone or some crappy budget corner cutting model with lame features and cheap plastic. It really sucks for those of us who don't want a brick in their pocket.

I am totally on your side.

It's not like I really desire a small screen, but I do like choices. Too small would keep me away, but 4.0" screens can be pretty roomy if done right. Why NOT throw a hi def screen, 32GB memory all kinds of top end hardware in a smaller package?

It does seem even 4.3" screens are mid range these days, which is mind numbing.

I agree with both of you. The screen on my Lumia 900 is as far as I can go, as even this screen is too big for me one-handed. It is mind-blowing that people really want freaking mini tablets in their pocket...bulging out looking silly. I am praying these curve designs help with that (at least in the Lumia devices). Luckily, Windows Phone is an easier OS to use in this situation because of Metro (or Modern UI or w/e it is now lol) using the large live tiles, and the font is usually not hard to reach within apps. I really wish a high end device came in a package like that of the HTC 8s, as I actually like the design and look of that phone over any of the other WP8 devices. The two tone color thing is just sick IMO, but because of the low specs, I'm going to have to pass on it (unless it is offered extremely cheap to where I have no choice but to purchase it outright since I'm not in a contract lol).

Out of the options you provided, having too big of a screen would be the factor most likely to deter me from buying a device. Good reception would be my number one criteria but was not listed.
