WP 8.1 Denim update not possible, I get the message: your phone is up to date

I recently bought a Lumia 1020 which has WP 8.0.1032878 installed.
If I search for updates I get the message: "your phone is up to date".
I tried it a dozen times. I'm connected to wlan and to my carrier Telefonica/O2 (Germany).

How can this be? This is driving me crazy.
I googled it but I couldn't find any answer.

Check your region, time zone, time and date settings. My lumia 1020 still hasn't received the denim update since it hasn't been released for my country (Kenya). It's a possibility that you have the same situation

Date, Time and Region are ok. I also adjusted the settings manually (instead of Auto) but it didn't help. In Germany Denim was released one year ago and also several other updates to WP 8.0

Obviously my phone is from the UK which isn't uncommon. I also found that the manufacturer nr. on the Microsoft-site:
Lumia 1020 Country variant Denim 8.10.14226.359 3051.50009.1451.1003 RM-875_eu_euro1_211

So everything should be ok and it shoudl work?!

Flash it with the recovery tool, that should get it up to date.
