WP 8: make your screen as cluttered as iOS!

Right because having functional tiles acting as icons that show you notifications REGARDLESS of size are considered to be a cluttered mess. If you can't organize your home screen to become functional, then maybe you shouldn't mess with the new update

Indeed!!!!

I also wonder if someone will file a class action suit against Nokia and MS for knowingly selling phones that you can't fully upgrade. It would be ridiculous, but if I've thought about it, chances are someone else has too.

I'm definitely a power user, and when I saw the summit demo video of the guy naming off all the different styles of how you can customize your start screen... I was like "DATS MEEEEEEEEEE" when he said "Power user". Haha. I have an Android, and I just use the app drawer because there just isn't enough single home screen availability for me to put the apps I want on it. I think that's whats so great about the windows phone start screen, it's scrolls up and down... not transition left and right to different home screens.

This could be ok if you've got control over layout features.

I wonder what the chances are of AT&T letting people out of their lumia contracts for new wp's and a two year commitment?

that's funny. It's nice that they give us free updates but it's not in no contract. I can't update my windows 7 to windows 8 for free on my computer. The computer can handle the update and our phones can't. That is why. Microsoft is not being mean or greedy. The current phones just can't handle the horse power. I have a Lumia 900 & titan 2. I'm not mad at all. I wish and hoped Apollo would run on my phone but in my head I kinda new my phones couldn't handle it. Am I mad? No. Am I sad? Yeah. But I new when I bought my phones that Apollo was coming and bringing super phones. Oh well that's how it is.

I saw this reasoning there as well: xda-developers - View Single Post - Lumia owner cheated and angry.

There is only one word to describe the **** storm, misinformation, whining, rabid bias and plain stupidity Microsoft's various announcements have generated these last days: disgust.

After reading some reviews of the layout, im really looking forward to it now. It looks pretty damn cool.

Upon further review, the ruling on the field has been overturned......

Love. Love. LOVE the home screen. Really looking forward to seeing what "New Group" will do and how I can organise all of the tools, social, media, games apps/hubs. :)

Yeah that was un-Batman like of you.

Can we chose the size? That's better than I thought it was.

By what has been shown, there are three different sizes - small, medium and extra large.

I understand small = tiny icon like Android and iOS icon.
medium = current WP7 like
extra large = a little bigger than our calender and picture tiles.

So ideally,
My WP8 will have following extra large tiles:
Email, Messaging, ME tiles - where I can see scrolling notificiation with texts saying what exactly it is.

I will have medium tiles for WhatsApp, Skype, etc like apps where I need to see number of notifications

and a row of tiny icons for those apps that I use less frequently but hate to go and find.

BTW, now that I've written this, I have a feeling we WON'T have a separate notification area in WP8. Instead, users will be able to choose tile size to have scrolling notifications in full, or just number of notifications like current set up or nothing.

some people just don't deserve a windows phone

This couldn't sound any more like something I would hear on iMore if you switched WP for iPhone. Some people are starting to sound just like the Apple crazed folks everyone else has been bashing for years.

They should have shown some more basic screen setups in the shots, just to lay the smack on all the stupid showing up.

I also do not care for how some of the static screens looked, but I'm also smart enough to realize you can do whatever you want. So stinking simple yet people are missing it. Ah well, as more info comes out people will figure it out I hope.

Was just thinking when I saw a headline below this page with a pic of an iphone, every single screenshot of an iphone you will see will look practically the same, with WP7.8/WP8 every single picture has the potential to look radically different with as little or as much info as a person decides.

I think just as people were undecided about WP when it was first released from seeing static pictures the same thing is happening here, only when you see the new start screen in action with YOUR content will you truly appreciate how much better it is. When its fully baked it will become clear how all the power is beautifully disguised by such a simple and clean looking start screen. Absolutely brilliant! :D

Then use Medium tiles for all the tiles...you can replicate the wp7 home screen less the gutter.

You can thank me later.

Or as un-cluttered as you want.
Call me when that doesn't mean I CAN ONLY HAVE SIX MEDIUM TILES ON SCREEN AT ONCE.

Bloody ridiculous, Microsoft doesn't pay you for this crap. Legitimate concerns shut down by the irrational, ass-kissing horde. How terribly ashamed you all should be.

While the new screen grow up on my the moment I saw it in video, I find the fanboyism in here disgusting. Windows Phone is an pretty but mediocre OS, I'm glad they changed the screen, now I can have all my apps displaying information right as I unlock the phone!.

Finally they made promise of their get in, get out, get on with your lives slogan.

How many tiles at once is non-cluttered for you?

6 medium is ONLY SIX MEDIUM
all loads of tiles is clutter
So there must be a middle ground.

May be 4 small, 2 medium and 1 extra large?

There is a tile for that! ;)
