Can someone on the ground ask the right people when updates will be pushed to the US? Thanks!

Are you talking about the new 8107 update? I don't think that's being pushed out fully yet, only a small group in Italy seems to have gotten it so far. Even my unbranded open market Optimus 7 still hasn't shown it yet I got 7740 real quick when it went out.

Yes, and it's showing up on the new Windows Phone Update page, so it's not like it's hidden.

Also, I think it's been pushed out in more UK countries, just not the US yet. I'm assuming they'll say something about it at CES, just wanted to ask someone in Vegas who may know something.

I've not checked this afternoon, but yesterday Zune said I didn't have a update (i'm on 7740) for my LG optimus 7. There is a way to force it if you want to, but I dunno, I might wait a bit longer, it's minor and so far the only devices that I know it's worked on is the Lumia 800 and the Omnia 7, and I think the Focus S.

Dunno if anyone with my phone has tried it yet.

Yeah, I wish MS would just bypass the carriers, like Google's Nexus, and provide the update files directly (while also giving them to the carriers for the people who are willing to wait on carrier validation).

how does Apple manage it? I have ATT iPhone for over 4 years now. dont know how it works on VZ and now Sprint. All updates have to go through the carrier? I didnt think that was the case.

Apple fully handles the support via their own support network (and by extension, their Apple Retail stores), bypassing AT&T (and other carriers, afaik) utterly and completely (though you can ask the carriers for help).

Microsoft, Google, RIM, all have to rely on the carrier for full support.

Apple sends their updates for carrier testing like everyone else.

Apple updates come out quicker because Apple is also the OEM. MS has to send out the updates to HTC, Samsung, Nokia and so on, they have to do their own testing and also give back any firmware/driver/OEM software updates THEN all that goes to the carriers for carrier testing. So the process is just longer really. If you look at Mango, look when it RTMed and when it finally came out. I bet if MS made the phone itself like Apple we could cut 2-3 weeks of OEM testing out of the time-table.

I really think MS should just offer a "update at your own risk" non-supported option for people who don't want to wait. Even for carrier branded phones, and have users agree to not sue and take responsibility on their own if something goes wrong. Or ****, MS should cover the support instead of the carrier in these cases. Sure costs will go up for them, probably, but then again it'll keep the users happy.

I really like the windows phone! Currently i am using windows phone 7. Its very fast and makes browsing extra pleasant. The camera performance and speed is brilliant!
