WWDC 2014 opened my eyes on what Microsoft should have done with Windows 8.1 & Windows Phone 8.1 WAY BACK. Apple introduced sending SMS on OS Yosemite, answering calls and a slew of features that won't require you to take out your iPhone out your pocket when it vibrates. Windows 8.1 killed one of the best pre-downloaded apps that I think they could have seriously improved on and made a staple for future windows OS. The messaging app. Windows 8.1 should be able for windows users with a windows phone 8.1 to read their texts on this app and reply. I am aware it was killed because of Microsoft abandonment of MSN Messenger but it could still be an outlet for skype messenger and, as I said before, texts messages. Windows 8.1 and windows phone 8.1 are basically (w/o cortona) the same thing and they share a lot of information between each other which is impressive but if I could see my contacts in the people app i should at least be able to see any new/ existing convos( texts) that I am having with them on my windows 8.1 device. Microsoft's universal apps should also allow for third party apps to have this shared communication as well. hopefully Whatsapp.

thoughts ??

What's even weirder is that the texts (SMS) are already synced with Microsoft's servers for backup. There never seemed to be any real reason that those couldn't be integrated into Outlook the same way Messenger, Facebook, and Skype are.

Hoping they'll get there soon.

given how large an update 8.1 was, i'd say just stay tuned, their resources were tied up for other features for 8.1 lets just hope the next update is as big, if not bigger

Windows phone 8.1 & windows 8.1 share a lot of info together. phone calls and SMS should be one of them as well.

Windows phone 8.1 could have interactive live tiles ( response to iOS interactive notifications ). WHAT IF !?

I always thought the route WP took was a weird one. The biggest advantage that MS had was that EVERYONE used and was familiar with Windows. The most annoying thing about mobile devices, pre-cloud anyways, was syncing with your PC and fragmented services. Instead of making a phone that extended everything Windows users were already doing they went all the way to the other end of the spectrum and spent the next 4 years trying to get the two OSes to meet in the middle without every really eliminating the transition between the two.

All things considered it's a bit embarrassing if Apple gets there first. Threshold had better be some blow your hair back stuff.

For Windows 8.1 users, in the PEOPLE app, there is already an option to call and send SMS to contacts with a telephone number(supposedly these contacts come from user's windows phone). However, when you click call contact or send SMS it can't preform the task because MICROSOFT JUST HAS OPTIONS THAT CAN'T BE USED !

This is coming in WP8.1, it has been reported.

The stuff I saw in the new ios8 presentation today shows it implemented now on that platform.

Android has had similar actions for a while.

At this point any of them claiming to be first is kind of pointless. Just improve the interface and components as best they each can, and enjoy whatever market they can sell to.

It was reported on WPCentral a while back. I'm pretty sure they just called them Interactive Live Tiles.

It will probably come in a GDR, AFAIK the article just mentioned MS Research was playing with the idea of interactive tiles not that they would be in WP8.1
