This is now number three, and in my eyes, and probably English consumer law, these are not fit for the purpose for which they were designed. Also the thin coating around the HR and charge point has also worn. I've had this one 2 months after MS replaced the other. Why don't they admit there is an issue? I was told it was probably sweat! It's a fitness device, how do I stop sweat if I'm wearing it for a jog??

It's beyond a joke now. I know others have suffered the same. Oh well, rant over, let's see what lame excuse I get this time....

MS asked for pics of my eczema etc. Sent them in and they said we take this very seriously and apologise for any discomfort. That's nice I thought. I then get another email with a shipping label, to return it for another one!!! The two previous have lasted around 2 months before the paint rubbed off around the HR and charge port, causing the eczema to flare up.

Now, if you release something as a 'fitness' tracker, it should be able to cope with wear and tear and sweat, right? Well that's what trading standards, in the UK have said.

I have asked, as a gesture of good will, if they would exchange for a second generation band, as some of their stores have been doing this.

So we wait and see

The bubbling battery covers wont do anything to you besides maybe look and appeal to the band itself i have the battery cover peeled and has not done one thing to me. support has said the same thing. MS employees on reddit have said the same thing. So in reality don't worry about it

The exposed metal on the battery covers have quite an affect on me, as does the HR monitor and charge port when the 'paint' rubs off. When sweat an metals meet there is a chemical reaction whereby nickel is released, triggering skin irritation. You must be one of the lucky ones as there are posts here where many people have had the same issues.

Microsoft are paying for the band to be returned to a laboratory in their HQ in Redmond. They were just going to swap it out at there service centre in Germany, but after seeing the state of my arm, and my attached doctors letter, in my email, they sat up and listened. Fitbit were hit with a class action a while ago as some of their 'wearbles' were doing the same thing, so I guess MS want to sort it before someone gets lawyered up, although the original band has been around a while now.

I had similar issues with my band. When it was replaced, I purchased the ArmorSuit protection for it (Charge cover and screen protector and battery covers) and they seem to have stopped/minimized my reaction to the Band and its reaction to me.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, at least for the charging port, I was able to cut the sticky part of a bandage to fit the dimensions and still allow me charge. This is not as good as the one above, but does work...

I'm hoping they fix the issues with the Band 3 otherwise, might be looking at a Fitbit instead.

Thanks for the info. Mine is currently in Redmond! Yeah, UK to Redmond! It's in their 'lab' as requested by Global Escalations Complaint dept. I had to send them pics of my arm etc. I have been offered something else 'different' but but does more than band one, and a complimentary 'other' piece of hardware.

I can't say anymore as I have had to sign something. They reckon they hadn't known about this issue. Yeah, right. I can't see every band owner being happy to accept such a shoddy product, and not report it. I could be wrong though. After the Fitbit class action a couple of years ago, more people should report these issues
