When you tap the three dots next to the metro apps logo on the bar at the top there is an option for making full screen so you can use them like an 8.1 metro app without seeing the taskbar, however old sliding down from the top is not working so ways to going back are either pressing the physical windows button on your keyboard or device, OR hovering your mouse over the taskbar or the bar at the top.
