Windows 10 PC Help (mail & start menu)

My mail app has stopped syncing emails after working for days. I have tried:

- removing accounts, re-adding them
- uninstalling the app, re-installing (calendar and mail)
- updating everything (store, virus definitions, windows, drivers)
- rebooting system, restarting app
- SFC Scan now is clear
- Malware is clear (Malwarebytes)

Some notes:
- I am getting internet fine (browsers work, other apps connect)
- I am getting little notification activity, whereas it was heavy before
- Outlook 2013 works just fine
- Data Sharing Service has errors and cannot be started manually (related?)
- Windows Defender updates are not smooth
- PC is slower with 10 than 8.1 (ntsokrnl aka system process is a beast at times)

Also oddly today, the Start menu appears to be missing some icons and all of the "most used" apps list.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Re: Can I get some Windows 10 PC Help (mail & start menu)?

I wish I could help. I'm having similar problems with the mail app. Win10 is giving me greater problems with "certification" also. I can't even access my web mail for business accounts. Thunderbird recieves these emails Sometimes??? & my main account always. Win10 mail app recieves my business emails Sometimes & my main account NEVER???
I have managed to access my web mail by turning off Windows defender but now it's grey/locked & I can't change anything..... It's becoming a problem I just can't afford the time for any more & may have to go back to Win7.

This is going to sound really dumb, but check under Privacy -> Calendar. Make sure Mail and Calendar has access to your Calendar.

Alternative, certain firewalls (AVG I'm looking at you) have been known to cause issues with the mail app.

As for your missing start menu icons... For most used apps makes sure that "Show most used Apps" is set to on in Personalization -> Start.

If it is run this script in your command prompt:
1. Open power shell by typing powershell in the command prompt.
2. get-startapps|measure

If that returns a count above 512, that could be the cause of the missing apps.
