here maps not working offline

So I tried switching off my 3g , set location to on and the maps aren't picking up my location. Now this maybe stupid to ask since I'm noticing now but shouldn't the maps work offline?

Have you downloaded them to your phone? Mine didn't come predownloaded.

If you put your phone into the Airplane mode (a "true" offline) - the phone will take much longer to find your location. You will, at that point, need true access to open sky and phone might take ~5 minutes or more to get a fix, as at that point, there is no assisted location information like cell phone tower location, WiFi network location information etc. It should not matter if you are in Drive or some other app, but:

- Downloading maps for the specific state / country locally on the phone
- Putting Drive itself in offline mode
- Putting the phone into the Airplane mode
- Having an open view to sky

Should give you a fix within ~5 minutes. You should get a fix in Nokia maps or Nokia Drive, I think, either way.

Sorry for hijacking your topic, but i think i have similar problem and need guidance how to fix it.

So, I have downloaded off-line map (Hong Kong and Macau in my case).
Switched off 3g and wi-fi. Even put the phone on airplane mode
Opened Nokia Here maps
My question is. How can I load downloaded offline map so I could test it?
I search for Hong Kong, but obviously, there are no results since the phone is cut off from internet.
How do I have to manage to use the HK map if I happen to travel there?

Any help would be appreciated.
