Microsoft holding Windows Phone press event in NYC Nov. 7 - Neowin.net

Even as Nokia revealed its Windows Phone 7-based devices this week, Microsoft still isn't done with promoting its mobile operating system. Winrumors.com reports that media outlets are being invited to attend a press event in New York City on Monday, November 7 where presumably there will be some news announcements.

The invite included images of two of Samsung's upcoming Windows Phone 7-based devices, the Focus Flash and Focus S, along with HTC's big Titan smartphone. None of these smartphones have been released here in the US yet. The images show an AT&T logo on all three phones which would seem to indicated that AT&T will be at least one of the carriers that will sell these devices.

Microsoft is also hinting that the event will also have some other kind of "big thing" and that there will be a "unique experience after the press event is held in NYC's Herald Square. Those kinds of words bring up all sorts of ideas in our head. Are we going to see a really, really big phone in Herald Square? As far as an unique experience, that could mean anything over in New York City.

In any case, it appears that Microsoft has waited until Apple, Motorola and Samsung got all of their big smartphone announcements out of the way before making some buzz of its own. Will it be enough to get people to purchase these devices in the busy holiday season or will it fall short? We will soon see.

Invite only worries me a little bit. I think MS is just going to show off their current wares and don't plan on announcing anything new.

If you have a Chinatown nearby, you should check it out. They usually get Nokia phones to sell to others before it suppose to be sold to North America. ;-)

That's honestly what i'm expecting. Don't see any way Nokia is announcing it's top end Windows Phone yet either.

I'm sure this event will make up for the complete and utter lack of advertising and in-store displays so far this fall. MS's marketing effort with Windows Phone is pathetic...it's completely invisible. I have no faith in this platform anymore. Shame since I think it is the best OS.

Google "eeyore," you may see something familiar. Yes it isn't iMarketing, but the nokia WP just beat ios and android in France for sales recently. The Nokia displays are much more noticeable than apples at the malls over there as well.

Let Nokia start the wave in Europe, and it will have ripple effects over here. I met an iphone 4s guy today at an att store who was specifically looking for the Focus S because he "hates iOS and can't wait to get rid of it."

He had never used WP before, and there he was looking specifically for one. He had to have heard about it somewhere. The word is getting out, not at a breakneck pace, but it is.

If you don't have a WP, get one, be part of a new OS and enjoy the heck out of it. People are more apt to convert if they see happy users as opposed to those who mention what ms isn't doing to launch the platform.

Ok I found the article where it talks about it, but that poll was breaking down the iPhone4S separately. Add all the variations of it and the iPhone had higher sales, so it's a flawed chart.

Either way though, that's higher sales for Nokia than I would have expected. Good for them!

Calm down. Last November was a pre-release. This November a few new phones are being released, Mango is upon us and momentum is beginning to build. Why spend $500M on marketing if there is nothing to market. Promotions and advertising will continue to grow till Nokia launches their US devices in Q1-2012. That's when it should get interesting.

No insider info here. Just my observation.
