How to delete Word or Excel files??

The phone is the HTC trophy. Rather then type on the phone I created a word document and emailed it from my desktop. I opened the email on the phone and saved the attachment. Unfortunately the word version I saved is 97-2003 and it will not allow me to edit it. Using my notebook I then created a later word version of the same file and emailed it, opened the email and saved it to the phone. I can edit this later version on the phone but now I have two files with the same name. How do you delete a word or excel file from the phone?
