Where to enter unlocking code on 640

Greetings,
I hate to ask this, as I know I've seen the info on this forum, but have been unsuccessful finding it after several hours of searching.
I purchased a GoPhone 640 and AT&T has gracefully sent me a unlock code with instructions that do not work as I do not have a different Sim card to place into the phone
Someone posted the code that can be entered that then will then open a screen with a number pad to enter the unlock code--something like *#xxxxxxx#. You know, a similar code that will then display the imei number!!
Can anyone point me in the right direction. Does anyone have a list of such codes that apply to the 640? A phone call to AT&T claims no such code exists....

Can you tell me if the unlock procedure at for Nokia 640, did the one without sim (response provided by troylytle work)?

Steps that I followed

1. Put in a non ATT sim
It directly asked for the unlock code - no choice but to exit

Next,tried using a ATT sim

1. Keyed in ##7820#
2. Prompted to enter the unlock code.
Where do I get the code from? Can you please explain the process clearly.
