Why can't my friends call me on my Nokia Lumia 635?

Every time my friends call me, apart from a few of them, it cuts straight to voicemail and it says my phone is switched off. I can only make phone calls to them and when I do it says I am an unknown number.

get a new replacement SIM as that is most likely the issue - a faulty SIM
