Is Lumia 830 still a good choice?

Hi all,

I was planning to buy a phone and was wondering about Lumia 550 or Lumia 830. Which one is better? Of course the 830 is better but what worries me is how it will perform with future Windows 10 updates, or how long will it be supported by Microsoft? Should I go with 550 or 830?

I had an 830 up until last week, I was devastated at it's loss!

It ran Windows 10 like a champ! It was my daily driver for about 2 years.

I never used a 550, but the 830 comes highly recommended. If the battery I ordered for it is all it needs to come back to life, I will be a happy camper. (Currently on a 640; while it's a decent replacement, it still isn't the same.. I miss the capacitive buttons of the 830, the extra 8GB of space and the awesome camera the most.)

I bought the 830 for around $117, as it was on sale, as a replacement for my already defective 1520. I won't bother to update it to Windows 10 since the lack of stereo recording will bug me the most. It's something that iPhone 6 and some other high-end phones lack. I also think that Windows 10 messed up with image processing on the Nokia Lumia phones.

I just ordered a new 830 for a very decent price off of eBay. Hope I made a wise choice on a 2 yr. old phone.
Missed the Nokia build quality of my 925 and the camera button.
Since I got the 830 at $129, I can't get too upset if things don't work out I guess. Well see when it gets here Lord willing.

I'm using a L830 since the launch back in 2014. It's a good phone and it still holds up. I did the W10 anniversary update and the phone is refreshed with new features.

Cool. Looking forward to getting the 830 seeing as it is a very sturdy looking device, just like my old 925 which my friends' son now has

I hope the 830 will hold up for a couple of years more. Miss the build quality of my 925 and camera button.
Nokia certainly built some good hardware .

I've bought my third 830 recently - it has very solid build quality, loud speaker, 3 HAAC microphones, nice display and design, and the camera - it's so good, given it's a 2 year model phone. I've tested it against Samsung Galaxy A5 2016, and it just kills it.

I can recommend this phone.

I have always had Nokia phones since 2000 and had great reliability from all of them. Now that Nokia as we knew them are gone, I wanted to get one of their last branded phones before they are no more.
Was a good run while it lasted.

Well guys, thank you all. Guess I'm buying none of these phones. Got a deal for 90$ for Lumia 930. So that will be my next phone, can't wait to get it!

$90 for a 930? wow - great phone. depending upon your carrier, you may or may not get LTE. I had a 930 and loved it, buck lack of LTE ended up being an issue, so I went with an 830 until I could get a 950.

It has a few scratches on the back cover so that's why the price is a bit low, but I'll get a new cover and it will be like new phone. LTE or not..I don't care, I rarely use mobile data, 99% on WiFi, everywhere I go. Hotspots everywhere XD

great choice then. the 930, still, is a world class phone. the camera is that phone is really good.

the back cover is easy to replace, and they're cheap. a tip: take the sim card out, and start the back cover off there. there is a tab inside the sim holder that is accessible, which makes it easy.

Well the 830 arrived today and I immediately updated apps and
Installed the insider program.

The phone successfully installed win10 and am currently on 10586.107. Runs good so far on this build, but I went to slow ring to get the anniversary update and am stuck at 43%. I'll go back to it tomorrow to play with it some more, but in the meantime I have my 640 XL and it is running anniversary smoothly. So far soo good.

That's a nice phone, and in my experience, it runs W10 very well. 830's are very underrated, IMHO.
