Need to stop phone's folder acces on network

I have logged to wi-fi network and found it surprising that the folders of my phone were visible to others without me getting any information about it.
This is a very issue as anyone can access folders on my phone when are logged on to the same network.
let me know how to stop access to my phone's folders.

I have never seen any of my phones folders show up when connected to a Wi Fi network.

Are you using some app or something? This is the first time I've heard of something like this.

Can you provide screens shots or proof this is happening?

What model phone do you have? Operating System and Version? Is this a public Hotspot? What type of network - details most helpful...? How do you know others can see your files? This problem sounds highly unusual.
