Hi all. I'm in search of a new laptop. I will be mostly using it for browsing the web, email, and MS Office (especially Word, Excel, and Powerpoint). I've been using an Asus F555LA-AB31, but am finding it slow. It is much slower than my PC (Gateway DX4885, bought in 2014) and my Chromebook (Asus Flip C101PA). Anyway, I've been researching laptops and have some questions.

    1. Which is better? 512 GB SSD, or 1 TB HDD? I know a combination of SSD and HDD would be best, but it looks like that is not in my budget.

    2. My aging PC has a processor speed of 3.1-3.3 GHZ, 10 GB ram, 6 GB processor cache, and 1 TB HDD. Would a laptop with 1-3.6 GHZ, 8 GB ram, 6 GB processor cache, and 512 GB SDD be similar in speed?

    3. Which would be better? HP Notebook 15-dy1751ms (https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c06447661) or HP Notebook - 15-dw1008ca (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06452700?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0002)? Would they both work for my needs (MS Office, surfing, email, toughscreen, less than 2kg)? The main difference I see is the 15-dy1751ca has a 515 GB SDD and the 15-dw1008ca has a 1 TB HDD. Would the 15-dy1751ca be faster because of the SDD?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

For me, 1) Go with just the SSD, 2) Yes, it should be similar in speed, 3) I would always go for the one with the faster CPU, more RAM and sole SSD.

    SSD for sure.
There is a HUGE difference in speed between SSD and HDD.

SSD if you want SPEED! HDD if you want 1 TB!

I'll say it again, go for the SSD.
