Hello Devs.

I am eyeing for Lumia 520 to be my developer device for WP8 development. (Reason: budget)

Any pros/cons of using this device? Or alternatives.

Thanks! :)

I'm planning on doing this too, my HTC 8X is my normal use phone but the 520 looks great for development, I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the 20 dollar price break on HSN.com unfortunately it's sold out now.

So, is the consensus that the 520 would be a decent 2nd dev device to test on. I have a 920, the gf has a 925, but I would like to see how my apps will run on lower spec devices.

Does anyone know of some available dirt cheap wp8 phones? :)

If you don't have a problems with used devices, you could probably get a decent deal by picking up a used or refurb model. (also given the varying prices, you could probably look around ebay for 620's and others)
The 52x pretty much is the go-to device I'd say.
Huawei also makes some solid low-end offerings, particularly the W1, although there's a newer W2 coming out.
I'm not sure if it's cheap enough, but the HTC 8S is placed at the lower end.

I use a 520 as my development device and it works great. I also sometimes use my 920 but if it works in the 520 with 512mb it will work on the 920 fine.

The main advantage with Lumia 520 is that if your app will run fast on this phone then it won't have problem elsewhere. However should you plan do to stuff with front-facing camera or led you are obviously unable to test it.

Yes, that's true, but if I need to use any of those functions then I can test on my 920/925. Might get a cheaper one with FFC and Flash...

I use both the 520 and the 920. Still best to also run the store test in VS before submitting to the store. Just because it runs fine on a 512 device, doesn't mean it won't crash.
