I am looking at getting a Surface 2 this weekend and the PTV3000 (Netgear). I was wondering more about the functionality of it when using the EXTENDED display.

Since I am a cord cutter, I was hoping to use the Surface 2 to miracast video on the second screen and continue to use the Surface for browsing and regular operation on the main screen. Is it difficult to flip an app or browser to the extended display on the Surface 2? I saw in videos folks were using the youch keyboard to drag things over to the remote display... it looked a little cumbersome and was wondering if anyone here had more info on the matter.

I've done it, the process is better with a Touch or Type Cover and I would make sure you are using 5GHz WiFi for you internet connection. Some sites like CBS.com or ITV.com use flash based players that can bog down the Surface 2, but BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime's Flash Player works without issue.

Keep in mind that for streaming video, DLNA is by far the preferred technology. The main reason is, that actual video rendering is deferred to the last part of the decoding chain. With Miracast the video is decoded locally (on the Surface) then framebuffer content is re-encoded for Miracast to be transferred to the external screen.

Unfortunately DNLA doesn't work on most Protected Content such as CBS.com or ITV.com....

Omg! I just learned that my Sony bravia smart TV has WiFi direct on it already, I'm streaming things from my surface to my TV now. Awesome! Although.. The TV is making me realize how bad the quality is of everything I downloaded. Is it because the TV is a 50 in, and it is stretching what's on the surface?

Side note, the frame rates(?) Look epic.
