Hi all,

Currently I have a Nokia Lumia 800 with WP7.8
As the OS is somehow outdated I am thinking about buying a new WP.

Now I would like to know if the new Lumia's will be coming out soon (follow up for 920, 925) and what their spec's will be?
Or is still valid to buy the "older" Lumia 920, 925.

Further I would like to know if WP8.1 will be upgradable to WP9.
Because with my Nokia Lumia 800 I got stuck with WP7.8 after a short period allready.

Personally, I think the 920 and 925 are still good phones - and I use a 520. As far as upgradability is concerned, Microsoft insists that future upgrades will work on all present WP8 devices.

For a normal user, IMHO L920 and L925 are still a pretty much killer devices.
I wouldn't worry about an update (WP9) which is far far due. According to some rumors Windows 9 would be announced during build 2015, so WP9 is still an year away.
Plus according to microsoft, Windows phone 8 devices would get updates and security updates till 2016. So, it is very likely that our device would get WP9.

Ok thanks!! I wasn't aware that WP8 would be upgradable to WP9.
Can you tell me more about the Nokia phones for 2014? Can we expect new phones on short time period (Nokia world 2014 - end february)?

Ah, you lucky you with your Lumia 800 :D

Back on topic, the Lumia 920, 925 and 1020 are, as said, still really great devices. The only known refresh coming at the moment is the Lumia Icon, which is a refresh for Verizon's Lumia 928, which is a derivative of the 920. There are rumors of 3 new devices comming. One is a dual-sim, probably low to medium range. The other two are unknown.

Basically, if you want a device know, you'll get great battery, great performance, 1 GB of ram (2 GB if you buy the 1020), great photography and still future proofed. All WP8 devices are to receive WP8.1 sometime during April-June. If you wait, probably the next wave of devices will come around that time, so that they'll generate more hype. They'll probably have Qualcomm 800 or 805, maybe Tegra K1, Bluetooth 4 LE, WiFi 801.11 AC, 1080p/2k displays, 4.5-5.x" screens, 3 rows of apps on Start Screen, 2 GB of ram, 20 MP shooter, 32-64 built-in storage with or without SD card, MAYBE 4k30/1080p60/720p60,120 filming, LTEa 150 Mbps and overall better battery life.

The Lumia Icon (929) for Verizon is confirmed to be 5", 2 GB ram, 1080p display, 3 row Start, 20 MP camera, Qualcomm 800 CPU.

Maybe Nokia will announce new products this year at MWC so wait for that if you can.

520 will have WP 9 upgrade?

Windows Phone 9 is nowhere near being announced. Lumia 520 will be upgradable to WP8.1 and any future updates (at least till 2016), so I am not worried.

To OP, if you were planning to but a Lumia 920 or 925, I think you should go ahead and get one. The hardware is pretty good and it will survive future updates. You could wait for MWC, but due to the acquisition of Nokia's phone division, you may have to wait for quite some time before new phones are available in the market. And if possible, get a carrier unlocked phone. That way, upgradability will not be controlled by your carrier.
