How to get facebook profile photos to come back after setting custom?

A while back the my contacts started to stop syncing the facebok profile photos to custom pictures I had used before. An older version of WP8 used to let you specify the facebook profile photo. Now it doesn't. Although it seems to still work for people I had not set custom photos for.

You have to open Contacts -> chose the contact you want to see Facebook's photo.. Click on Edit.. Press the photo and it'll show you the photos from linked accounts to that contact.. You choose the one you want to use and it'll keep your choice

It's working again after I did a system restore. Simply viewing the the contact appears to now sync the profile photo.
