Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1 that also shows the system files and that let me create new directories and move files (like Windows Explorer or Free Commander for the PC)? I have tried "Files", "Folders Free", "Metro Commander" and others, they all are not complying my needs. Under Windows phone 6 and 6.5 this was easy, since there were several such file managers avaliable.

What are your suggestions?

Amend your expectations. You will not see system files. This isn't Droid OS.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

If you don't have any suggestions, I kindly ask you not to advise me what I should expect. I would otherwise call this rude. Thanks for taking note.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

With the system restrictions, i don't think any file manager would be able to have system level access

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

There is no app available and will not be available in future. This is to keep the Windows Phone OS secure.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

How can you see into the future? Let the community know, please.

Experienced people should have access to system files. Otherwise WP will be a proprietary operating system. Only green horns would like such a thing.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

I prefer the status quo, as for me I prefer the system files to remain hidden. I wonder why these 'Experienced people' would want access to system file for?

It is a proprietary OS... And a closed one which makes it safe and secure. Users cannot break it deleting files they have no need to see.

Sounds like Android is for you if you want to be able to hack your phone.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

Pretty much, there isn't a file explorer that will let you into the actual OS files, and don't expect one. I'm sorry your needs may not be met, but this isn't our OS, it's Microsoft's work.

Sorry.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

Who said I want to "hack" my phone? That sounds so adverse. There are people who have scientific and other interests. They are locked out if they don't have full access to their phone's internal life.

Had I known that Microsoft is going the same way as Apple with its ridiculous proprietary behaviour, I would have opted for Android. Insofar, you're right.

If they make people access system files, then it would be open to viruses.

You asked for a suggestion. I gave you one. Sorry it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

I have a suggestion..... go away.

It's a different compromise they chose, not ridiculous as you claim. Security which is a benefit, and openness, which can be a liability for normal people. Yes it might not be great for everyone, I wouldn't mind having such access myself, but oh well its just how it was designed.

Re: Is there a real file manager for Windows Phone 8.1

Just curious, but why do you NEED sys file access?? How us this a deal breaker?? Again, just curious.

Having root access in Android (and other, often older devices, since Windows Mobile, Palm OS, webOS, etc. didn't hide system stuff) gives freedom.

One can edit the HOSTS file, giving systemwide adblocking, one can tweak or change operation to their liking. (within reasonable bounds, not like you can just transform it into another OS)

Jailbreaking iOS let one have systemwide themes, custom bezel swipes and button remapping, do things apps weren't normally allowed to do, like toggle hidden features, remove system fluff, use the wondrous app f.lux. Not saying those things will carry over to Windows Phone if we do get that access, but its indicative to what can happen.

Of course mucking around under the hood can send you running to iTunes for a restore or have your device running in circles with a respring loop, but its the potential tradeoff.
