Why cam I unable to update from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1?

I cannot update from windows 8.0 to windows 8.1

I have windows 8. I want to update from win 8 to win 8.1 so that i can change to win 10. Every time i try to update , from the store, i get "the app was't installed" I have a HP Pavilion 23 Purchased from WALMART with windows already installed. Thank You Willie May

Might want to check all other Windows 8 patches are installed and there's as much free space as possible.
