How do I tie my mobile number to Skype?

I want to be able to send SMS texts from my surface instead of picking up my phone. But if I use the number Skype gives me, the person I'm sending to doesn't know who's sending. I know it can be done I just can't figure how.

If I do that and send SMS messages via Skype will the recipient see the SMS come from my mobile?

I don't think it's possible Hink. Laura's method will forward your mobiles calls to Skype but not your texts (it's call forwarding not text forwarding)

I really wish Microsoft could make this a thing though, I would uninstall whatsapp instantly!

If they really want people in their ecosystem give us what we want. Don't make us I use other apps when they can do it seemingly easily.

Yes, it is possible. I have it configured like this for !many years now. Anytime I call out from Skype it shows my mobile number. Just google, how do I use my mobile number to send SMS. I don't know how to add links here, sorry
