16:9 vs 4:3

Which do you prefer and why? I know on the Lumia 1020, a 16:9 means 5 + 34MP and a 4:3 means 5 +38MP, but how many feel that 16:9 offers so much more?

I personally find I like 16:9 over 4:3 just because of the extra you gain on the images.

My 1020 is my main device. The iPhone is a wifi only device. I use it for BBM. Easier than using my 10.1 android tablet lol.

Got the gf a Moto X so I'm using the iPhone 5 till we sell/trade it

Besides, it's much easier to end up cropping a 16:9 image to a 4:3 (or 21:9) image than the reverse, from my experience.

Besides, 16:9 seems more...natural.

Well, most practical applications nowadays are better with 16:9, but if one bothers to see the extra effort of cropping (I dont when its 200 pics of my daughter), then I guess 4:3 is better

I don't know about you, but I prefer my images to contain more details, 16:9 is practically a cropped 4:3 anyway (at least I think so).

4:3 shows a bigger picture, not sure if any effect to picture quality...
But I generally prefer my photos to be in 4:3, since I can adjust it later

16:9 for most outdoor or inanimate object type shots, 4:3 for pics of the kids playing around and doing things. Do not like 16:9 for situations when I want to take a shot vertically.

Shooting in 16:9 seems more natural to me. Also fills the screen of my Lumia 1020. Sacrificing 4mp is a small price to pay in my opinion.

16:9 here too! The resulting photos fit your monitors and TVs properly nowadays, and well, real life is seen in a more widescreen aspect, so why not our photos?!!

The problem with these images as the lone example, is they are just one type of shot.
Scenery, which generally favors a horizontal layout rather than vertical can benefit from the 16:9, by getting that extra side to side detail (like the sun above), vs the extra sky or ground (which usually does not add much more to the image.)

4:3 has its benefits, like a few others have said, for kids or vertically oriented objects where you want more vertical detail and less horizontal focus.

I shoot in 16:9 the majority of the time, but when it comes to indoor shooting with the kids and family, it is always 4:3.

For a photography point of view I always use 4:3 whether it horizontally or vertically
