2 Nokia Lumia 928s can't hear callers

So my friend and her brother have 928s and now both of them can't hear callers unless the headphone is plugged in or on speakerphone. What is the best course of action at this point. Sounds like going for a verizon replacement is going to lead to the same issues again, or should they wait for the 929 to come out and replace it with one of those?

Sounds like the headphone plug is sticking. Maybe plugging the headphone in a few times will unstick it.

I don't believe it would help on speaker, would it?

In any case, the upper right hand corner of OPs phone likely has some give. Squeezing it should make the speaker work. For a while. After a month or two, that'll no longer work, and you'll find the speaker will be too soft most of the time (squeezing the phone will make it proper volume.)
I've been through 4 928s with this issue.

Im gonna get mine fixed and go back to the 920, Im reading about to many issues on the 928
