2G vs 3G

I've got a Lumia 720 here in the Philippines and I'm just wondering, does switching to 2G as the fastest cellular connection on my device affect its Phone Features like calling and texting?
I mean, I don't use the cellular networks for internet connection because I'm always depending on Wi-Fi.
I just want to know that if I would only use 2G, would that affect the quality of my calls and SMS service?

If you don't need fast internet all times, switch to 2G to save battery life. It has no effect on SMS and calls.
