520 sim card questions?

Hey guys, I have a quick question. Im thinking about buying the 520 from amazon for $60 for my dad since his att feature flip phone died...just a few days after the one year warranty lol. So I was wondering what sim size the 520 is so that I can trim his sim card he has now down to size? And has anyone else done this before? If I setup the phone first without a sim and turn off the data under setting a and then put in my dads sim, att won't be able to recognize it as a smartphone and thus won't charge $20 for data a month right?

The SIM card size is Micro-SIM. Also of note is the 520 features a Micro-SD card slot!

Att would eventually start charging for the data, the imei of the phone determines whether its a smart or a feature phone
