640 charging conundrum...

i have 2 640s. they are less than 2 years old. oddly, at almost exactly the same time, they both stopped charging on their MS chargers--or any other micro USB charger.
they will, however, charge on USB--normally, if connected to my laptop, and 'slow charge' if connected via AC adapter with USB cable plugged into it.
WTF???
anyone else experience this?
any explanation as to why this might have happened??

That is strange indeed. Nothing wrong with the wall outlet you are using - tried another? What about USB cables, all tests done using OEM along with "other", one of those same cables used on laptop? Sorry for the basic questions but ya just never know.
