640XL instead of the L920?

What is this rattling about 920 being better than 640XL? Have you even read specs? 640XL has clear black screen, has Carl Zeiss optics, and has HD screen. Gaming? Dual core 920? Really? It seems that 920 owners aren't ready to accept that their phone is outdated. By the way, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic also has Carl Zeiss. So why they even bothered making new phones!?!! Get serious, please.

Well, I just put my 930 (yes, 930!) down for my new 640 XL lol
Love the bigger screen, and the battery is much better. Well, it lasts longer, but seems to take longer to charge.

I use a 920 as a semi daily driver, it splits time with a M7 and a 635. I am hoping to grab a 640XL for under 250 when it hits and replace all of them.

The 920 has a CBD, Carl Zeiss optics AND OIS, and an HD screen, etc. etc.

Gaming? Dual core 920? Yes, I believe the 820/920's graphics chops is stronger than that of the XL, 830, 735... Processor cores don't tell the whole story.
And benchmarkwise, the Snapdragon S4 in the 820, 920 is about on par with the Snapdragon 400 in the 830 and other phones, including the 640.
Yes, its outdated, but remember that the 640 XL is a midrange phone and doesn't represent the best performance in a current phone whereas the 920 was higher up the ladder when it came out.

Not exactly, I'm sure its different in that its probably seen improvements, but then again, its probably also seen cost cutting too.

I am really surprised by some so called "suggestions" here...some of them actually made me laugh. I don't know why people go off specs and if they do...then what's the point of asking for opinions? If one still does ask for an opinion then give them an honest one, provided you can back it up by either personal experience or something you are sure of. Just because the 640XL has a quad-core processor doesn't mean it plays games with a better quality nor does it mean that 920 being a flagship release has a better battery life. There are certain key features that a potential buyer may or may not like, couple of them might actually be the deciding factor. So stop confusing people and post if you actually have the real experience to back your comments.

Well about this clearblack tech discussion... I guess we can all agree the 630 has clearblack just like the 920 ..but the difference is you can actually tell its there on the 920, which has great blacks for an LCD screen just like the 1520, but the 630 from what I've seen using it in the Microsoft store has some pathetic blacks, clearblack is just a labal apparently since nokia/microsoft has put it on phones that show it and phones that dont really show it at all.... So you should just ignore whether or not it has clearblack and just choose based on which one suits your needs...The Lumia 920 has great blacks, and some great sunlight readability, and the screen is sharp too... As for the 640 XL I cannot speak for how Nice it is in these situations,( not in the u.s yet) but some ppl here have stated that its blacks are a more blue-ish color like the m8, but that may not matter to you.. Hope that helped

If you actually see a 630/635 display, the difference between that and the 720/920/1520 (all LCDs) is night and day. I guess the 640 may have it, but the 630 for sure didn't.

I've a 635 to play with and it does seem to have some kind of CBD polarizer. It's not as good as on my 920 but slightly better than my 830, it's clearly noticeable when compared to a 520 and 535 (I had both)

I'm almost shocked to compare my father's 635 to my sister's 720. The 720 has a whole different kind of contrast. I read an article that said that the new lineup doesn't use the same 'quality' of the polarizer that was used in the x20 series lineup. And when the author contacted MS their response to that was to the effect of "we market any display that satisfies a certain sunlight legibility test and a certain contrast level as a CBD". I don't know what they've changed but it's not the same technology that is used on the 920/1520. I haven't seen the 830 display in person so I can't comment on it, but I have seen the rest, and there is something off about the x30 lineup's displays.

Yes its definitely not as good as the previous generation CBD. The 920 had a very nice CBD polarizer. The 630/635 seems to have one with a slight bluish dark tint and since I haven't seen a 640 personally I can't comment on the CBD on it but from all the videos I've seen online, the CBD on the 640/XL seem to be similar to the 630/635. The degraded quality would be due to cost cutting or may be newer cheaper components? I'm not sure about that but it really doesn't come close to 920's screen quality for obvious reasons.

I have at home my old 630, my new 640XL and girlfriends 640 and honestly I can't tell the difference in CB, so I think they've used same technology for 630 and 640(XL).

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Regardless the screen quality is good for the price.
