Users with dev preview which got their cyan update: How is your 920 running? Is everything ok, smooth?

I just received the cyan update and the first thing I noticed is that scrolling through the start screen / menu isn't smooth anymore. it's somehow jerky. and as i scroll it seems like there is a horizontal line in the center of the display which it doesn't display correctly. also i have noticed this line in the camera. when i move the phone around, this line appears and cuts the image right in the middle.

Anyone there with the same problems, or is everything ok?

My 920 since cyan has two issues, begins to heat up while I'm using IE, and has battery drain.

I have unlocked at&t 920 that was running DP8.1 but after the cyan the phone started having some problems so I did hard reset ...no luck 🍀... So I downloaded the Nokia software recovery tool and did a full restore and now the phone runs great...the battery life almost doubled... Now the battery 🔋 shows one day and 17 hours... It was worth the pain as the phone runs much better now.

JonahTrav - I have been having serious issues with an email using large amounts of data and called Nokia and they suggested downloading the Recovery Tool but I was hesitant due to other users complaining about end results from that action. Based on your post it seems to have worked for you, how big a pain is it to do?

Thanks for you response!

Ok... If you have a fast internet connection that helps a lot because you have to download 1.3g for the NRT as it puts a fresh firmware on your phone... That was pain one for me... The second is after you restart the phone after using NRT you shouldn't restore your phone with the back up of your setting and apps... If you do a restore maybe you'll just be putting the problem back on... Do a fresh set up,but that means you have to download the apps you want and set the phone up like the first time which can take some time...I won't list the problems I was having, but using the NRT fixed my phone and was worth the time...I hope it fixes your phones problem.

Jonahtrav, a stupid question how do you not restore with the settings and apps? Won't those be on the back with contacts, etc?

Not at all...i read what to do from other people who did it before me. Before you use the NRT go to setting and back up your text messages if you want them restored,I did and it wasn't a problem... After you use the NRT and your phone restarts you will be asked if you want to restore your backup ...Apps and setting or do a fresh start... Do the fresh install... When you sign into your Microsoft account your contracts are restored from there . I did it this way and it didn't put the any problems back on my phone.
I understand its a little worrisome to do a reinstall in your phone...
Download the NRT
It will ask you to plug in your phone.
Once it finds your phone it will look for the correct software for your phone.
If your phone is a att 920 it will say that a 1.3 G download is needed.
It will remind you that all info on the phone will be erased..ie..pictures,music ect.
It will ask to continue or cancel.
Once it has downloaded the software it will install on your phone.
You do not need to touch the phone till it is finished... As I remember it tells you to not touch the phone.
Once it is done... In big type it say it's finished... Unplug your phone from the computer.
At this point your there's some kind of welcome screen and then your asked to sign into your Microsoft account and Wi-Fi...
Your then asked if you want to restore the back up...i wouldn't... Do the fresh install...
From there is just like when you first got the phone....
Once your phone is up and running you can go to the store and see which apps you had before... Some of the Microsoft apps will just start downloading on there own, but most you will have to choose.
Sorry that was long and maybe you much info.. Hope that helps.

My 920 after the update seems buggy. Specially scrolling home screen or anything. It got buggy. Did a soft reset. But disnt work

The heat and battery drain aren't in my list of issues. The bettery is just as good as before the update.

Well, from what I see, I guess it's up to every persons' "luck" which bug they are getting. Some have battery issues, some have display issues. Waiting for an update to fix all this.

I don't think it has anything to do with "luck". I think it's more about our own perception of smoothness. Some people don't notice the lag at all (a lot of people say that wp8 is buttery smooth but it's not, it lags from time to time, nothing major though). Some will say it's smooth while it's not but once again, it depends on your perception.

I also have a 920, unlocked with DP and got cyan recently. Tbe battery is the same than before, a few overheating issues but that was always the case. However, the startscreen is horribly slow at times. scrolling is not smooth, tiles take times to load. Did a soft reset already (several actually) and nothing changed. I stopped counting the number of soft reset i did since I got this phone... I do love WP but I'm getting tired of the experience getting worse and the slow updates.

I got that exact jerky scrolling now and that annoying "warp line" when scrolling, even in apps. Also stuff like menus take a longer to open. My phone was butter smooth before todays update.

I have been having performance problems since I downloaded the 8.1 developer preview. I was hoping the cyan update would resolve this but alas no such luck. What's weird to me is sometimes I see no performance drop other times market drop.

I have to wonder if it's a DP to Cyan thing. I never installed the DP and now have Cyan. My 920 has no issues and scrolling is 'as smooth as a baby's bum'.

Did the PfD update and the phone slowed down, screen jitters, and the battery life was about eight hours with average use. Next step, used the Nokia Recovery Tool and wiped the phone clean. That updated it back to 8.1 and Cyan but removed the developer version. I then reloaded a subset of the old apps fresh from the store.

Worse than every. Eight hours is a good run. I have had the phone drain now in six. Simply unacceptable. I wasn't looking for a reason to upgrade my phone but I also don't have any more time to dedicate to a fix and haven't seen any options out there if I did have that time. The closest option I've seen is someone recommended getting the BIOS reflashed at the company repair center but that may also brick the phone. Not worried about the brick risk, I just don't want to deal with AT&T and getting the flashing approved.

So I'm heading off to pick up a Hulk. I have been really hesitant to go so large and already returned a white 1520 within the two week window because I found it too large. But with no other flagship on the horizon there isn't much choice. Considered changing carriers for the Icon or scrapping Win Phone completely for the Experia Z3. But nothing makes financial sense but sticking with AT&T, Win Phone and Nokia.

8.1 runs like complete dog **** (slow) on 920. Anyone know if it runs better on 1520? Resume, resume, blank tiles, blank tiles.... Or is the new reiteration of the OS just this laggy all together?

Hi i have a 720 and have the cyan and 8.1 update. I saw on some videos and forums that we can create a folder for app. How come im not able to do that?

I have an AT&T 920 with Cyan and DP Update 1. It runs great, smooth and quick (although a few apps do do the loading/resuming thing, but it's app specific). I loaded Cyan/8.1 using NSRT for a clean install, then added DP, and then restored my settings and apps last. I personally think a lot of the issues people see with the Cyan upgrade is due to bugs in the update program, which I don't think can handle all the many variations seen from one phone to the next. This has been true for Windows upgrade programs on PCs for the 25 years I've been messing with Windows, and I'm confident it's the case on WP, too. This is why I often recommend hard resets or reinstalls from NSRT to fix problems.

You can only do this if you're in the DP program and have Update 1 (AKA GDR1 or 8.1.1) installed. It is NOT part of production 8.1 yet - it will be released for older Lumias with the Denim firmware update.
