Hello everyone,
I've switched from my old (loved) L800 to L928 and installed WP8.1. The problem is that the phone is awfully laggy - I can see micro lags everywhere and it drives me crazy.
Scrolling through main screen and app list is terrible - everytime I scroll, the list moves 3mm in the opposite direction which is really annoying.
When I want to scroll fast, It scrolls as fast as my finger but when I remove the finger from the screen, the list stops for a while and then scrolls really slowly. It's hard to explain but its really bad experience. When I take my L800 after 2 weeks of L928 torture I feel like in heaven.

I tried 3 hardresets, every possible combination of screen settings (doubletap to wake, "gloves", extra columns, wallpapers) - no success.
Is anyone else experiencing the same? Is this a problem of 928 generally, my 928 or WP8.1? I feel like coming back to my old phone because this thing is a huge mess:(

EDIT: slowmotion video of my startscreen compared to L720 8.1. You can clearly see a lag after every scroll - it stops for 7frames every time and then scrolls slowly. You can't emagine how annoying this is. I'm back to my L800 now but would like to solve this issue. Any new advices?
Thank you guys

Thank you,
Ondra

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I know in general the 928 has a less sensitive screen than the other Windows Phones. A friend has a 928 and it has a delay when responding to swipes and stuff. This was in WP8. I don't know how it behaves in 8.1 though. Does your phone have a problem with WP8 as well?

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

I dont know unfortunately. The only thing I did in WP8 was to update to 8.1 :)

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

Try let the battery die and than charge it! New firmware maybe fix it but u?ll have to wait.
Try talk to nokia about it.

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

I've had my 928 since release. Have had it from sea level to 17,000 feet above sea level. 104 degrees to -20 (Ok, it was a little sluggish at -20). Installed 8.1 on release day. Still as snappy and responsive as the day I got it, which puts it above the Blackberries, iPhones and 1 Droid I've had.

I do not have the same symptoms you are describing. Have you looked at what apps are running?

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

Thanks for the advices. I tried to remove the wallpaper, battery died today accidentally. As for the apps running - I tried to switch off all of them, nothing has changed. Now I noticed that scrolling through apps in battery saver works flawlessly - no lags, no oposite scrolling - almost the same experience as with L800

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

Sorry for your results, but mine runs just fine.

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

Not one problem with my 928. Also installed 8.1 very first day. I remember ppl here complaining Cortana's tile on start screen caused some headaches. If you have her on start screen take her out, and delete background image

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

OK, at least I know that I should keep trying. Will try another hard reset tomorrow. But I'm afraid it won't help as the phone is laggy even after the first clean start after reset..

Re: 928 WP8.1 slow and laggy

My 928 is running really well. The only real glitch I can speak of is an occasional twitch fit, like some phantom is tapping the capacitive buttons causing the start screen to come up, or Cortana, or the app switcher. Really weird, but it usually passes and in some cases a soft reset clears it up. I think it's Internet Explorer related but I can't be sure of it.

Hi guys,
could you please check the video and tell me whether its a normal behaviour of L928?
I got used to it but yesterday I played with my L800 just to realize how bad my "new" phone actually is. It takes 3-4 scrolls to get to the end of my not so long start screen. Extremely annoying. I'm using my phone not even half the time I used to.
I had the same issue even when I downgraded to 8.0 with totally clean system.

It doesnt seem to be hardware related because f.ex. scrolling through the list of apps in battery saver works like a charm.

Is there a possibility of reflashing firmware or flashing some other ROM or whatever I remember from the good old Symbian times?

Thak you very much, apreciaty any advice.

I have the same problem with my 920 running the 8.1 Preview for Developers. It's noticeably laggy and stuttery when it comes to swiping from the start screen to the app list and during animations. In comparison my 820 running 8.1 is smooth and fluid like WP is supposed to be.

I'm hoping that the official 8.1 update with Cyan fixes this.

The 928 has a less sensitive screen that other windows phones. My friend has one, and it requires more swiping compared to my 920 and 1020. It's really annoying to me, idk why that isn't a bigger issue for Nokia. ALL of the 928s have the low sensitivity issue, and no one has called out Nokia for bad quality control.

It's not the screen it's the OS and the non-optimized software. If it was the screen he would've had the same problem on 8.0. The DP of 8.1 has issues with certain phones.

When I first installed the developer preview on my 520 everything was slow . I got so frustrated that I restarted my phone then every thing worked fine after that.

OP never tested the phone with 8.0. But the 928 has sensitivity issues even with 8.0. I know 2 people with 928s and they don't swipe as smoothly as my 920 or 1020.

Thank you for the replies. But let me repeat it again: I installed WP8.0, setup the system (no apps installed), did some restarts and used it for couple of days and it was exactly the same as on the video with 8.1 (7 frames lag for every scroll of the screen on 120p vid).

But I still dont think its a hw screen issue. Why? There are some apps where scrolling is supersmooth as on L800 - IE, Battery saver, Favoz to name a few. This is really wierd.

Is it possible that the firmware (Black) is not installed correctly? Is there a way how to reinstall it? (may be a lame question but Ive got no idea how this FW vs OS issue works. But changing OS didnt help)

Thank you,
Ondra

I would just wait for the official 8.1 with cyan release. Hopefully that will iron out the performance issues.
