950XL recent issues

All, recent updates to the 950 XL and it's apps have been causing me a major headache!

First the good news:
After almost a year with the the 950xl, the recent Redstone update finally fixed the Bluetooth issues with my car.

Bad news:
I've had a bunch of app updates recently: Groove Music, Skype Preview, etc

1. The first Skype was bad, the new Skype Preview is worse. Too many clicks to start a video call. Once a video call starts...the volume is VERY low. I have to hit the "..." button and put the call on Loud Speaker. After the update on the 27th, that option is gone making the app useless now.

2. Groove Music was recently updated, and now my Ford's Bluetooth will continue to play music, and I can use the volume, but the other controls like "Next or Previous Track" no longer work.

3. It takes me about 4-6 seconds to launch the lock screen. I don't know what happened, but double tap or the power button takes forever now.

Am I alone with this.

Hi , going through with your issues i believe you must try a soft reset, its good to see your issues with Bluetooth have been fixed for a big extent but still has a few issues. Anniversary update was a huge feature rich update and during installation it could create some minor glitches which could surface after successful u[grade. Yours seems to be facing the same, why dont to do a soft reset ( hold volume down+ power key until phone reboots).
or if you already have, check whether all your apps are updated under store

Can you briefly describe these Bluetooth issues and if you had to do anything special to get it working? We're having issues too. Periodically audio on calls does not work. Dialing and hang up are fine. (Groove works fine.)

My phone has the delay when waking the phone. It is like the screen is still active because you can interact with it and unlock while launching apps - but the actual display is off.

Try cleaning the whole screen - and if you are using a screen protector it could be that, but otherwise I hope it is a software thing.

Hello all, thanks for the replies:

I did a couple of resets and the issues are still present. Ignoring Skype, Groove Music connects and plays through BT in my car. However, I can use my steering wheel to increase and decrease volume, but as of sometime last week/weekend, I can no longer use the car's controls to do Next/Previous. I have to skip via the phone itself.

To be more clear on my lock screen. It's a matter of waking up. I doubletap, and if it decides to respond, it takes a couple of seconds. Same if I hit the power key on the side. No screen protector. Started happening in the last week or two. Got rid of my old Lock Screen Manager and used Bing, but same results

My phone is doing the exact same thing. I have a screen protector though. My suggestion would be to clean the screen, mainly where the proximity sensor is.

When that get's dirty the phone seems to struggle to do things like wake the screen when unlocking.

But even after I do this, auto brightness still doesn't work properly until I do a soft reset.

Hi to all.

I don't really have the issues above but have a few different ones !! I am currently running build 14936 on my 950xl, been on this build just under a week now. It is the latest as you know.

I have had several crashes / reboots done automatically by my phone, once during a call and many times while just using apps too.

But something else has happened Cortana is not working how she should ! When I press her on she does not bring any info up on her home page just a little white box saying Interests Tap to View ! I can't get her to chat back to me or search either ? She will speak but when you ask her to do anything she replies and says " I can't connect at the moment. Try again in a little bit." For some reason she thinks she has no connection ? I am connected to wifi, tried 4g but still the same ?

Just wondering if any of you guys have had this issue !

I have had a similar issue with the white box, but it is usually temporary and usually indicates you have a slow/bad connection or reception. Normally if you wait a little bit (say 30 seconds) with that white box and then force close Cortana and then start the app back up you will get all of her normal news items.

Turn Cortana off... well now there's something I've never tried to do before... Anyways, it's not exactly intuitive.
Open Cortana -> Menu -> Notebook -> About Me -> Click on your account (it doesn't look clickable but should be your email address and is clickable) -> Click on the account on the new screen -> option pops up for sign out -> select it and it should deactivate Cortana
Then you can go back through the initial setup screens, see if it makes a difference

Thank you so much. Recently updated on fast ring and Cortana has been cutting me off mid-sentence when trying to set a verbal reminder. Did what you suggested and now she listens all the way thru and sets reminder perfectly.

Turn Cortana off... well now there's something I've never tried to do before... Anyways, it's not exactly intuitive.

OK, so just to update:

1. - Skype moved the LoudSpeaker to the "front pop up"....OK....problem solved.
2. - After 5 reboots, I can now control Groove Music with my car. (two of those reboots were by the phone itself while charging)
3. - Lock screen still slow, but acceptable...

Every once in a while there is a Microsoft person that visits. But yes, several people use this as a support page, although I think most of them know it is not Microsoft running it and the answers come from Windows fans. The ones that actually think this is ran by Microsoft are far and few between (I have witnessed some of these though and it is rather surprising).
