A little perspective on the iPhone vs WP8

920 all the way!

Me like man sized phone with man sized weight. With it I can get into my man sized pickup and drive to get a man sized steak with a man sized beer to wash it down it. Go home to my man sized two story house, pet my man sized dog and go to bed in my man sized king bed........but not before calling mommy and telling her good night. ;)

Cases sell for the same reason that "handset protection insurance" and "AppleCare" and "extended warranties" sell... they're super-high-margin and pushed by carriers on people buying new phones who fear that their fancy new SamsungAppleHTCNokia LumiPhOneX S III will get scratched or cracked.

Holy **** the 8X is lighter than the Iphone 5.

Edit:

Wait, you are comparing the Iphone with a big cover against the others right? How is that a fair comparison >_>.

I have never nor never will put my Lumia 900 in a case. It's too sexy for a case.

I hate you guys, we have dozens of Lumia 900/N9 covers just wasting space at my work because Oooh this phone is too pretty for a case >_<.

I always have a case on my phones. I'm quite careful, and at the end of the device's time with me, the case even still looks great. I just don't want to drop it that one time and ruin its ebay value. Since I change phones frequently, being able to sell the old one for top dollar is extremely important. I'm not rich by the way, I am just intrigued by tech and like to play with new devices. And I have no life.

A little perspective to me is that there are 453 grams in a pound. Iphone 5 = 112 grams, Lumia 920 = 185... difference of 73 grams, which is the equivalent of 2.5 ounces...

This is why they've been using grams instead of ounces. It makes the difference seem very dramatic.

They use grams instead of ounces, because metric system is more universal. ;)

Doesn't change the fact that we're talking extremely negligible differences in dimensions and weights though, and people should be less obsessive about it. :)

I've never got the point of wrapping a phone in a case. To me personally it seems like a waste to put a case on a phone. I've used an Iphone 4 for the past 2 years and have accidentally dropped it on the sidewalk from my jacket pocket, I've kicked it across the street once by accident, and I've always kept it in my pocket with my keys and the only damage I've had is a tiny hairline scratch on the back. Maybe I've just been lucky but I don't thing cases are necessary and I won't be putting my 920 in one either.

Sorry for my long rant.

x2

Do they even make cases for the 900 / 920?

Never put any of my phones in cases, I guess I dont see the point. Cover up the design and look of a phone with a case. Some of these phones are designed by experts in the market and are paid big $$$ to come up with cool designs that people want and desire but, people just cover them up ! Such a shame !!!

Other reasons why can can justify not having a case...

1. I normally get a new phone every year and 1/2 to 2 years
2. I pay $7 for insurance each month, if it gets really bad, it could go for a swim.
3. Modern phones are just too pretty for a case...
4. I normally take really good care of my phones.

Even my Trophy, had it from Verizon's release, it's got minor scraches on the screen but, otherwise perfect. It will hold me till I get my new 920 (as long as verizon gets it)

No More Traditional Cases for Me

It's Murphy's Law in effect that when you drop a piece of toast, it lands buttered side down, and when you put a phone in a slider case, it will find a way to slide out.

When you put a phone in one of those rubberized cases, but don't put on that godawful plastic film "screen protector", the screen will scratch.
When you try to ever-so-carefully place the plastic film on your screen, you will leave a partial fingerprint, probably enough of a fingerprint to make an FBI technician salivate.

I hate cases, so my new 920 is going to go au natural, and my insurance plan is going to be, "don't drop it."

I'm going to tempt fate, because the 920 is too damn beautiful to be covered up. Just gonna cross my fingers and hold my breath for two years. Should be fun.

I will use a case for the L920 too, so that point is like of moot for me. And that's because I will love a kickstand for my phone.

Really, the argument against iPhone is just how it isn't what it was promised to be in many respects.

Were all our phones too fat and heavy before? There was a point to which thin and light made a difference, but I think we are beyond the point of diminishing returns.

I guess nobody needs a compact car, since the average dimensional length difference between a Corolla and a Camry is only 10 inches. Truly negligible! Just get the Camry and squeeze it into those parking spaces, right?!? :D

Very hard to believe that you only got a hairline scratch on it.....every other smartphone in the world would of gotten more damage than that....especially since you kicked it down the street. Is this the new bullet proof iPhone that Ive heard about?

The same 90% people are going to put their 8X in a case as well.

not entirely true... the htc 8x feels more durable than an iphone 5... and i only use a case if absolutely necessary. with an 8x , i wouldnt need one. not just from dropping it, but everyday wear and tear. that polycarbonate unibody will hold up 10x better than that spray painted aluminum and diamond cut edges...
