well if it scuffs like the 900 then it does. There are multiple drop tests of the iPhone 5 and I have yet to see it fail. I fail to see the point of this thread I guess.
i have also seen the drop test but not on one of them did the phone land on the screen side. Besides people will use cases mostly because the phone scratches so easily not because it will completely break. I will definitely not use a case with my 920. I used my 900 for 6 months (until I sold it) without a case and I actually used to drop it on purpose to show people how strong it is. Got a very small nic but that was about it

My N8 just turned 2 years old, still pretty much looks like I just pulled it out of the box. Never used a case, never will use a case for my future phones either (probably 920).

Just about the only people in Finland who use cases are iPhone users, and it's not even majority of them either.

Were all our phones too fat and heavy before? There was a point to which thin and light made a difference, but I think we are beyond the point of diminishing returns.

No but they also had 1.8 inch screens so it didn't matter how thick and heavy they are, they would be still tiny even with a hardware qwerty keyboard.

I've never got the point of wrapping a phone in a case. To me personally it seems like a waste to put a case on a phone. I've used an Iphone 4 for the past 2 years and have accidentally dropped it on the sidewalk from my jacket pocket, I've kicked it across the street once by accident, and I've always kept it in my pocket with my keys and the only damage I've had is a tiny hairline scratch on the back. Maybe I've just been lucky but I don't thing cases are necessary and I won't be putting my 920 in one either.

Sorry for my long rant.

My phone falls a lot. Cases provide protection

I admit, I haven't seen a lot of WP's, in the wild, but none were in a case. I cannot remember the last time I saw an iPhone without a case.

I disagree. While I didn't put a case on my 4S and I currently do not with my GS3 (which is polycarbonate.. i.e. plastic.) .

I had a GS3 and there's no way that device can be regarded in the same hardware build retrospect as a Lumia device. The plastic used with the Galaxy series is far from the protection provided in the Lumia device series. I dropped my GS3 from 2 feet and the screen was destroyed...ive dropped my Lumia multiple times from double the hight and its in perfect condition.

I'm changing my phones in 2 years interval and I've never used cases or screen protectors. I don't see any need to do so. I understand the phone to be a consumer goods, so I don't pay any special attention and simply using it.

Check out the Lumia 820 with the Nokia CC-3040 protective shell. Now THAT'S rugged slimline that few phones can compare to. See my review in the Devices/Lumia/820 forum. No need for a big case on the 820 as the shell options cover it with almost no size increase at all. I just use a leather wallet to protect it in my pocket but when I actually use it I need no case and remain confident.

Beat that, iPhone.
