According to Thurrott on WP 8.1, this is it.

I actually don't get a feeling of cheapness from their phones. Phones have been plastic for years now all of sudden it's not good enough?

My guess is its a preference for some. These materials are what phones will be made with from now on. Unless somebody comes up with one made of paper mache. lol.

Not in sales. Lol. I like the G2 and G3, but they wont pass Samsung in a year. No way. Samsung's marketing is too good, and they happen to make good products as well, even if some think they feel cheap (I do).

If LG stops with the stupid Q3 release of there flagship phones they might. With there release schedule the way it is most people are mid contact.
sorry but the G Gpro G2 and G3 have all been way better then anything Samsung has put out. But your right Sammy has one hell of a PR development.

When compared to an HTC or an iPhone, yes they do look cheap. Notice I said "look". Even Nokias with their fancy appearance look plasticky to me. But that's just my personal preference.

In my honest opinion looks come last when I look for a phone. I rather get a less than 5 inch screen phone with good specs and the also that I want then I may see whether it is ugly or not but honestly, I throw all my phones in cases so I don't care.

I have owned several samsungs and they always felt like cheaply made toys. Unfortunately that is common these days, but I prefer a solid feeling phone even I it ways slightly more. Its not like I have carpal tunnel that prevents me from holding a phone that weighs a couple more grams (sorry poking fun at reviews that hold light weight as the holy grail in phones).

I rather a phone that felt like a toy and have everything I need than get a phone based solely on looks you will cut yourself short like that.

They already ported NT to ARM for Windows Phone. I don't see any reason why they need 2 different OSes running ARM.
They don't have 2 OS's running ARM. They did back in the WP7 days - WinCE in WP7 and Windows RT were completely different OS's. The ARM port of Windows NT is used for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT. I'm not claiming that the sole reason for MS porting NT to ARM was to keep NT a multi-architecture OS. They needed an ARM version for a number of other reasons, among them was the dominance of ARM in markets in which they wanted to be a player. And Itanium had faded years before, so the decision to ditch it was easy. But I really don't think there was any though of sticking it to Intel or forcing Intel's hand or anything like that. Microsoft needs Intel too much for that; you really think Microsoft wants Intel to start holding back information when Microsoft is trying to debug their JIT compiler or chasing a weird fault in the kernel (especially if they continuing offering that level of support to Apple, Google, and Linus)? Also ARM had been making noises about pushing into the datacenter market, and Microsoft needed to make sure they were ready in case that actually happened. Which BTW is one reason that Windows RT really is full-blown Windows with all the bells and whistles. If it turned out that those datacenters full of ARM chips need to be able to run MongoDB or Redis or a web server then they can do it just as well as Linux can.

I'd much sooner believe that they were forced to by Intel because even if they knew the precise second when Bay Trail would be available, they couldn't wait a year for it to come out.
They didn't have to wait a year for Bay Trail. When did the first quad-core WinRT tablets ship? Oct 2013. When did the first Bay Trail tablets ship? Nov 2013.

Maybe I wasn't very clear. I prefer a well constructed phone as opposed to a creaky ball of plastic. With WP, you're going to have the same experience no matter which phone you have (not counting OEM exclusive apps) so I'd rather have a solid piece of equipment. With Android, your UX boils down to which custom ROM fits your tastes, so again, I'll take the sturdier build quality.

I absolutely agree with you on this point. Coming from a Samsung Focus, I was originally a bit put off by the size of the L920 as compared to the 8X (the other WP option at the time), but in the end I'm very happy about the build quality of the phone. I have always carried my 920 naked without problems even though I have had several drops. I've noticed the overall size compares favorably to other phones that are wrapped up in a bulky case.

Hey different strokes. I use cases, I have broken too many phones outside of cases to use no case regardless of build quality.

No they do not. If that was the case HTC and Nokia wouldn't have near death throes. Samsung continues to do well, while everyone calls their devices ugly, that speaks volumes of how much appearance matters to consumers.

Appearance (with the functionality) - the HTC One sold a ton of phones, the HTC 8X, not so much. Difference ... the One had the goods, the 8X not so much (both good looking devices).

Appearance goes way beyond the hardware itself. My Start screen is gorgeous (as well as some other 8.1 pix on this forum). One major complaint about the Start Screen is it was too busy all those flipping / updating tiles in basic monotone colors. It ran it's course & quite frankly I can't believe how ugly that was. With Dev Preview, you have transparent tiles (if you choose) with a static background - looks better, your favorite pic / scene / abstract.

As far as plastic, there is plastic, then there is polycarbonate - both plastic, yet light years different. My Lumia 920 was a tank, the Lumia 1520 I currently use is light for it's size, however very solid. I really can't believe how many devices Samsung has unloaded, good innards, less desirable fa?ade. The removable battery was one differentiator. The HTC One was at least as good as the SGS4, my opinion & critics choice, but ... Marketing must be getting huge bonuses.

Actually the HTC One didn't do the best. Not enough to stem their losses they lost 40% of revenue last year compared to 2012. That's why I said looks don't pay the bills.

I keep my devices in a holster, but that's not a substitute for using subpar materials except to keep costs down and profits up. Using a case or skin renders a device's aesthetics moot.

I don't care what materials manufacturers use. As long as the software and screen size is right, I have no complaints. I prefer plastic because it can stand more falls than other materials and I would be hesitant to get metal for fear of signal interference or scuffing or denting.

Very true, drop an m7/m8 and you get a nice dent you cant get rid of, the up side is you can sand out scratches and use a file to fix the corners. Ask me how I know, I hate cases and covers.

I'd rather my screen and the other innards remain in place with a metal case than deflecting every which way.

Yes I understand. The reality is that that the plastic phones seem to hold up better to drops. The iPhone has a problem with cracked screens. Ask any mobile repair guy, and he'll tell you that the single biggest part of his work is replacing iPhone screens.

If you drop a Samsung, it will go to pieces. There will be parts flying all over. However, that absorbs impact, taking it away from the screen. Gather up the phone, the battery, and the back cover, reassemble, and likely as not you won't find any (serious) damage.

I hate cases as well. Have one for my 920 but it is the Nokia silicone case. Barely can tell it has one, fits like a glove. That's how I like my cases. The ones that you can barely tell are there. But just enough to absorb impact and vibration. Especially vibration as typically it is that that travels through the case and breaks screens.

If updates to 8.1 are over, i am going to some other platform as soon as i can, because i can't stand random freezing in urgent moments. The phone just freezes and won't respond to any button, or touch or anything it simply doesn't work. WP8 was much better, just shame it had less features than 8.1... P.S. I have ATIV S

You need a different phone. 8.1 runs just fine on my 928. No freezing, lags or anything.

Is there a way to download an pdf attachment and then attach it and send it via mail? I use files to attatch it (can't do it via mail app, really ms?) but i can't find downloaded attachment, i suppose it keeps it whitin mail app? Did a search with files and found nothing.

I must add a caveat. Appearances seem to matter only to iOS users - note the cold shoulder given to the 5C. As for Samsung, it's not so much that they're ugly, it's the cheapness their abundance of plastic exudes.

Actually the 5C is one of the best selling phones in the world. It's only a "disappointment" to investors who think every iPhone has to be ranked #1 in sales. iPhone 5S continues to top the charts on every carrier, not good enough?
