Anyone care to clarify what the difference is between these two things? I must be missing some distinction.

i think notification center may be just a notification center, just a small down swipe will bring it, just like what we do now to bring all the above icons such as wifi, bluetooth, etc.

action center will be a complete drop down menu, showing all the list of msgs, notifications along with shortcuts to wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, etc.

action center is a place where you have settings, short version of notification like other smartphone platform
while notification center are like unification notification app, where it shows the full notification

You people are just making **** up.

  • Quick settings access (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) by doing a quick swipe from the top of the screen
  • Action Center accessed by doing a full swipe from up to the bottom (separate from the Notification Center)
  • Silent notifications which go directly to the Action center

There's been references to a quick setting area to turn radios and such on and off. There's a Action center that swipes from the bottom and a Notification center that swipes from the top. (Still nothing when you swipe to the right? w.t.f?)

Now, maybe the reporting on this is just shabby, which is likely, but it's been cited on many sites consistently. There are also screen shots with the media controls still coming in from the top as well, so I'm unclear how that will work and it's in direct conflict with the iOS-like settings shade. Very curious what to expect here.

I agree with you, I think there was some bad reporting regarding the Action Center. I'm not sure why WPcentral reported that the Action Center is accessed with a swipe from the bottom (which they learned from the SDK) seeing as it is not included in the SDK. Maybe whoever wrote the article, or someone in the know how can comment. But I believe there is only one. The Action Center is the notification center.

If this is bad reporting, my theory is that the "Action Center" is the name for the soft keys that will replace the capacitive buttons OR its the name for a new version of the charms bar that is at the bottom of most apps.

Not from bottom to top...hence the confusion

They reported it as a swipe from top to bottom...

I think they just got their words mumbled when reporting it. If you replace 'up' with top, then the sentence reads 'full swipe from top to the bottom'. Which is what it looks like they meant. Then maybe if Paul Thurrott is citing WPCentral he also read this wrong.

The interesting part to note is that he says it's different from notification centre. No idea what that means. I really like Baccus's idea of the action centre being a new WP charms equivalent though.

Calm down people! Action Center is the name Windows currently uses on their PC's to get to the computer notifications. Lower right hand, click on the little flag icon, "open action center".

That makes no sense as a Windows phone feature. It's not like Windows action center contains any of the app notifications like new message or anything. On Windows the system tray, action center and notifications are all disparate concepts.

MS left Action Center out of this build of the SDK for a reason. It's either something new and interesting or they just have their nomenclature out of whack for the notification center.

Posted via the WPC App for Android!

I believe the Action Centre would serve as a place for "actionable" notifications - like replying to a FB post without actually opening the app or sending a text or something on those lines instead of just being a repository of missed notifications.
