Amber update depending on current installed version?

Hi,
I am wondering, as I have never waited for official update, if Amber update (or any update) depends on current installed version or product code?
The reason why I ask is that when I check updates with Nokia Care Suite for Retail, there is one now but it is for polish product code (my phone originated there).
But since then I have flashed it with ROM from different country.
So what is your experience?

When you get it over the air it should update your current ROM, but if you use NSU then it will update using your product code

Thanks very much. Then I guess I have to wait ... I decided to try OTA, but I am still not getting any notification, so I have started wondering.

I assume you've forced it to check through the 'phone update' option in the settings menu?
