Any thoughts on why WiFi isn't turning off?

I've turned off the setting "Keep WiFi on when screen times out" yet my WiFi seems to stay on anyway. I've got an unbranded 920 with GDR2/Amber. Thought initially glace and/or double tap to wake might've been causing it, so I've disabled both with the same result.

did it work as described before amber?

also are you sure wifi isn't on? it should turn on when you turn on your screen.

Not sure if it was behaving this way pre-Amber because I had the WiFi always on. Decided to change it to conserve battery. All I know is I wake the phone and can see the WiFi icon up the top doesn't show that it's establishing a connection, it's just connected. This implies to me it didn't turn off when the screen timed out.
