Apps: 1GB vs 512MB

Are there still apps or lots of apps that aren't optimized yet for 512MB ram?
I'm not hearing news about like this anymore and I am surrounded by 512MB WPs so I don't know if I get the same App Store lists from the 1GB WPs.

Does VS default to 512MB when you create a new project? These developers are changing the requirement to 1GB themselves.
