Article: Why you don't need an app

It really depends on the situation.

I, for one, don't need apps because the web counterparts are often superior. I'd download apps only if they aren't just wrappers of the mobile site.
 
I tend to find web apps as horribly slow and buggy for anything beyond a basic task. I've seldom found a web app to be an adequate substitute for a native app.
 
Web apps are decent if you don't want to use memory. But if you want to use anything offline, then you are SOL. Luckily Chrome and other browsers allow you to add sites as webapps to the home screen and WP allows you to pin apps to your home screen. I think iOS allows this as well. So web apps could be more ubiquitous if site creators made decent mobile sites.
