Wow. That's an awesome deal. I was just about to list my two 640XLs in the marketplace. Not any more. Ha ha. :(

I'm not 100% sure but I would think that it should be similar.

My only doubt comes from the fact that the 640 was actually touted as a 'go-phone' and the XL is missing that title, but now that you mention it, the process might be similar yes.

Steps for unlocking an AT&T device:

Unlocking – Do NOT open the retail packaging before unlocking
Request Unlock Code

https://forums.windowscentral.com/e...2F%3F%255C%3D%23%2Funlockstep1&token=aHez8xpX

Select Non-AT&T Mobility customer > enter info

IMEI # is printed on the bottom of the retail box

Verify unlock request – AT&T will send a confirmation email. Click the confirmation link
Enter Unlock Code – Wait for ATT to email the unlock code then choose 1 of the following methods

With non AT&T SIM – if you have a SIM from any other carrier
Insert the non AT&T SIM and turn the phone on
Wait for the unlock prompt and enter the unlock code

Without non AT&T SIM – if you don't have a SIM from any other carrier
Remove the AT&T SIM and turn the phone on
Navigate to phone dialer and enter ##7820#
Enter unlock code
Unlock Info
SIM unlock is permanent, even after a hard reset

If AT&T emails you saying Your request for device unlock requires additional research to determine eligibility, just ignore it, you don't have to do anything. AT&T will email the code later

If AT&T emails you saying your unlock request is denied. Just ignore the email and resubmit the request. You can resubmit with the exact same email. No one knows why this happens

^^^ Wot he said ^^^

Caveat: AT&T allows only 4 (or 5?) unlocks per email address in a 12 month span.

Of course we all have multiple email addresses and I just alias my name on a secondary email account, LOL.
