My sister is having a problem with her newly purchased AT&T Tilt 2 (A.K.A. HTC Touch Pro2). It's freezing up, and she's having to restart it every day. Is this common, or not?

It can be some programs can cause the device to lock up. The bigest cause of lock ups is usually programs that are installed to the storage card. Does she have any programs installed to the card?

To the best of my knowledge, they're all installed on the device itself...

Has she installed a lot of programs? She might need to start removing programs one by one till she finds the one that is causing the problem.

I'll try that and see if it works. Thanks Big D5 for your help!
I didn't know if it was like BlackBerrys where you have to restart them every day or not.

Unless she has a bunch of programs installed and running like BigD mentioned, see if she can check with AT&T about a replacement. I only installed Google Maps and Opera Mini 5 (which she should use as her browser - it's by far the best for TP2) and I ran into issues with screen freeze and constant rebooting needed. Sprint was great and replaced mine and all is good now.

...at least until October when I'll upgrade to something as capable as a TP2 and inherently more stable than WinMo. When I find that something, I'll let you know 'cause it's not obvious to me yet.

Does she keep a lot of programs running? Is her device set up to close programs with the x or are they still runing in the background. If so it might just be that she needs to free up memory. And if she isnt using the ATT bloatware she might be able to get rid of at least some of it.

I'll have to find out if she's closing the programs or letting them run in the background.

Theres a program called crud sweeper that mentioned in an article about a forthcoming ATT official rom update on another forum. I will track it down and post it back here.

She may not even realize she's doing that. Unless set otherwise, I believe the default is to leave things running. Nice if you're using only a few apps & you shut down or reset periodically. It allows for quick restarts, instead of waiting the usual startup time. But, if your phone is on for a long time & you run a wide variety of things, there comes a time when you suddenly find nothing opens &/or things slow to a crawl, with long hesitations. I have an alternative taskmanager programmed to my Push to Talk button. But the regular taskmanager would work just as well. Very nice when even that won't open any other way.

And check what she has installed directly onto the phone. As was mentioned before, if she's running out of space, that'll cause issues. I make it a practice to install as much as possible to the sd card to leave memory space open. With few exceptions, the speed difference is negligible. And the stuff that must be installed on the phone in order to work properly either won't give you a choice or will show a warning message.
