No start screen sync was kept in the DP downgrade to 8 and back up. Yes, I did an extra backup before and all sync options were checked.
Another thing that you will lose is folders. Since that is an 8.1.1 update and this one is just 8.1.

I just used the NSRT to update my AT&T Lumia 920. Maybe because I did it at 12:00 AM central time, well after the update was released, but the NSRT already had the Cyan firmware available. It took about 25 minutes to update and restore my data (about 2 hours quicker than my brother's OTA update a few hours ago). I'm just waiting for my apps to install/update.

The only issue is that my start screen was not restored as expected, but I was planning to reorganize it anyway.

Edit: After I started reorganizing my start screen, I realized that I no longer had folders because I didn't re-enable the Preview for Developers and install Update 1. I assume WP 8.1 didn't know what to do with the folders, so it just left it as the default start screen.

Anybody else's Internet Explorer showing a ridiculously high amount of background run time?

I did do a backup first. Pics/videos/music werno longer on the phone, but I have everything backed up to Onedrive and did not really need it in both places. Setting were mostly saved. The one I can think of that was not was the vibrate when using hardware keys. Start screen was back to normal after a restore. To get to the restore, I did a hard reset of the phone after all the updates were done. Based on my experience I don't see a reason not to do the update other than the amount of time it took. Looking at some other posts it may be shorter now that you can update directly to Cyan through the NSRT.

I am on DP 8.1 Update 1. NSRT is showing I can install software version 3051.50009.1425.2001. Is this Cyan with 8.1? Do I not have to rollback to 8.0?

Reposting this from another thread (not sure how to move it) in case it helps anyone.

My AT&T Lumia 920 was on DP with all updates. I checked the Nokia Software Recovery Tool yesterday and there was no update to the software. This morning, an updated version 3051.50009.1425.2001 was available. Current version on my phone was 3051.40000.1347.1001. This new version updated my phone to cyan. I used the following steps:

1. Backed up apps and settings from settings\backup menu on phone. Click on apps+settings and then select back up now. Also make sure your photos and videos are already backed up to OneDrive or your computer or you will lose them.
2. Install the updated software using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool.
3. When the install was done, I was presented with the option of recovering from my backup done in step 1. This might not be necessary at this point, but it helped b/c it restored Preview for Developers automatically.
4. Signed in to Preview for Developers app.
5. Checked for updates in settings\phone update, and then installed the available update.
6. When the update was done, I performed a hard reset using reset your phone button under settings\about.
7. After hard resetting, I was presented the option to recover my previous backup. After installing this backup, unlike at step 3, my start menu was restored exactly as it was before starting this whole process, including folders!

Easy Peasy. Ok, not really, but it wasn't TOO bad.

And this restored all your settings and all your apps? I'm assuming any photos/music/videos/custom ringtones/offline maps had to be placed back on the device?

Settings and apps were restored, along with my start screen layout. Photos, music, and video were not automatically reloaded from OneDrive. Downloaded maps were not reinstalled, having to do that manually. I didn't have any custom ringtones.

Updated to Cyan 3.11.2.1
From my first impressions, it feels much snappier, like quick
Very impressive on a Lumia 920.

But now some questions:
When I hit the serach bar, I want to see the bing search screen, is that gone?

And I thought we were going to get access to folders already?

I don't know the details, but there's been discussion about the Bing search screen. Search the forums and you should find it.

Live folders are in the GDR1 update, release date not announced yet, although it's available through Developers Preview. Works great for me.

I thought the Bing search screen was replaced with Cortana. Any "normal searches" (as opposed to Cortana commands) are done through Bing.
