Backup SMS on 8.1 dev preview

Hello everybody,

I have a Lumia 1020 on Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview, and I have few questions.
I bought a Lumia 820 running WP8, and I want absolutely to transfert my SMS from the 1020 to the 820. I checked "Save all date SMS" on my 1020, but when I connected with the 820, absolutely no sms were backed up. I also tried with the Nokia app "Transfert my data" and only contacts can be transferred.

The solution I was thinking about is the next one :
If I upgrade my 820 to 8.1 dev preview, will my SMS be restored after a new hard reset ?

First of all congratulations for your Lumia 820 :smile: You can nokia transfer my data app to transfer text messages.

Thanks for your reply.
When I tried to use this app, it only show me that it only could transfert "contacts". Text messages were not displayed, I couldn't choose them :/

Yup your second option should work . Upgrade your Lumia 820 to windows phone 8.1 Developer Preview ,hard reset it then when prompted to choose a backup , select the most recent backup.

I would like to be sure that it will work. When I tried to backup on the 820 in WP8, it doesn't showed me the save I did on the 1020 in WP8.1. Are the backup save different between WP8 and WP8.1 ? Will it show me other options ?

Go to settings >> applications >> messaging >> turn on text message backup. Repeat the same thing on your 1020 and give it a couple of hours, all your messages would sync across both the devices...and you don't have to be on 8.1 to do this, it works on 8.0 as well

I don't think that's possible I think the capability started with 8.1

Yes they can. I got text messages on my SIM card less 8.0 620 when they were sent to my 8.1 device at nearly the same time

Can you explain more ? It didn't work for me. I have few texts back, but I'm missing my texts from the last 3 months. A lot of sms are missing. Both phone actually have "save texts" in trxt settings

I don't know. It just works for me. Even when I had different Sims texts would go to both phones

Well, after hours, still not working. That's really disgusting, we can't transfert sms from windows phone to windowsphone with apps.. .I have no words for that.

This seems more like user error than anything. Are both phones set to the same Microsoft account?
