Battery life with WP 8.1

It also improving coz....nokia is updating apps for 8.1....my main thing I use my phone fr is calls and that use to drain my battery....as nokia updated network and touch apps....hope it improves my battery life more

sent from Lumia 1020 or Note 3 dual sim

Since upgrading to 8.1 my battery on my 920 is worse than 8 by about 50%. Today is much better still have 60% left where normally it would be less than 30%. The only changes were Nokia updates. Touch and network+ updated has anyone else had better battery since these updates?

Am I the only one with a HTC 8x? Because I'm still experiencing drain, especially when using Facebook Messenger.

Since updating to WP 8.1 I haven't been able to get 12 hours of battery on my 920. I have been doing everything I can to avoid doing a hard reset. Yesterday was the worst day I've had since the the update came out and I barely used it. This was after turning all sorts of things off too. Not only was I having trouble with the battery, I was also having intermittent connection trouble with bluetooth. Another thread recommended re-pairing my phone to my bluetooth devices. This morning I deleted all of my saved devices in the bluetooth settings and re-paired with my car and headphones. Now my battery is back to normal. It's been 12 hours since my last charge and I still have over 35% left!

Now my only issue is my wifi, but that's for another thread.

Ok I think I may have discovered the cause. My sister has a relatively new Samsung Ativ S whereas I purchased it on Launch day and is 15 months old. We are both on 8.1. Her standby time and life is super. Mine is poor. Therefore, could it be just that we have old/used batteries that have been used a lot and do not hold their maximum charge? The only way to know if this could be the missing link is to hear from your guys. Just say how old your phone/battery is and if your battery life is normal/good. Let's prove or disprove my suspicion.

One day I got 30-36hrs, the next lucky to get 10hrs. Only thing that changed, I installed 8.1. So, not my battery. (Unless my and everyone else's battery had a freak hardware failure at the same time).

My Icon is now regularly getting only a 1-2% drain per hour with the exception of when a process locks the processor into it performance state and the battery gets hot draining very rapidly. It only happens every once and a while, and seems to be tied more so to IE 11 than anything else, though I will occasionally see this happen after a game, but that's been a lot more rare.

Most of the time, though, my battery life is now better than with 8.0. It is clear, however, that the firmware needs to be updated to keep the processor and radios from remaining in a high use state when they are no longer needed.

My Icon's battery is also doing much better. I disabled Cortana and didn't help with the random battery hot/drain, but since I remove Cortana's icon/tile from my start screen (about a week ago) no issues.

Interesting because I removed the Cortana tile on my start screen to free up space and noticed I now get thru an entire day with battery left over. I didn't put that together with my better battery until I read your post. Before id be charging by afternoon.
In settings under battery usage it never showed Cortana using very much. I still don't fully believe those battery usage stats for the various apps. I also don't see any real need for a Cortana tile on screen anyway. Ahhh...the pulsing ring. Right.

Has anyone experienced sudden battery discharge from 100% to 10 or 13% after restarting the phone? It happens a lot to me.
Phone: Lumia 620, India

My battery life was initially very bad with 8.1. It seems better now. This is what I did. I did roll back to 8.0 and then updated to 8.1. I then reinstalled all the apps. The battery life didn't seem much better after that. It's been 5 days since I did that and the battery life does seem better now. I did turn several app background processing off.

One app that I am suspecting of being a battery drainer is IE11 background processing. If you have a web site open that regularly checks for updates, like a stock pricing page, this can drain your battery even if IE isn't active as your main view. I have switched background processing for IE off. Perhaps others can try this to see if it helps them.

920 goes to battery saver at 4pm now..used to get to 9-10pm and that's without Cortona

Hope an update rectifies this

My Ativ S was dismal the first day with the update, but then I blocked battery saver from running in the background, and it was night and day. Now I have about 50% better standby and 25-30% better uptime than I did with GDR3, even though I now leave location on for Cortana, vs leaving it off prior to the update.

How did you roll back? I have a friend who has basically every known bug and issue, even though I have no issues and he has the same model phone as me just on a different carrier. He desperately wanted to roll back and wait for the official update. He has a Samsung Ativ S.

Thought I'd throw in an update. My battery life is now excellent on my Lumia Icon and I'm running the following items:
1- Cortana ON with a live tile on start screen
2- Location Services ON (most apps not allowed to use though)
3- Sync Settings (theme, favorites, etc.) OFF
4- Removed and re-added all email accounts. They are set to Sync every 30 minutes for a 7 day period
5- WIFI ON (WIFI Sense disabled)
6- Bluetooth ON
7- Battery Saver OFF - This one was a HUGE difference for me. Battery Saver listed itself as the single biggest drain on the battery
8- Automatic APP Update is enabled, but the WIFI requirement is OFF - I had a couple overheating/battery drains related to an app trying to auto-update, but WIFI *NOT* being available and it seemed to bug out.

I probably have the screen active for a couple hours during the day while I'm skimming news feeds, checking mail, running through my favorite apps or editing photos. Not really much of a game player, so not a lot of drain there. The only app that seems to really eat power is Cortana and only when launched and being interacted with.

After the 8.1 update I was bleeding 10-15% battery per hours with very little use and experience numerous overheating problems.

Now I finish the day with 50% battery life quite easily.

That is pretty much the same settings that I have plus 12 or so apps allowed to do their stuff in the background. With Bluetooth I have it on all the time but only connected for around 2 hours or so every day but it is playing music during that time. No games for me either so it is just internet stuff that it use it for.

I get battery usage of 0.2% per hour while in standby and if I'm web browsing I use 6-8% per hour. I get 3 days out of a charge on my 1520

Battery drain after restart - Windows Phone 8.1 preview

Switching regions to enable Cortana, my Lumia 925 which is fully charged, restarts with about 25% left!

I have not noticed this drastic battery drain after normal restarts.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
