Battery life with WP 8.1

My Lumia 820's battery feels exactly the same with 8.1. I don't use that many apps that have background agents so maybe that's why I don't have any problems with it

How can i do a backup of with all my things? (Apps, text messages, images, ringtones,etc)? I want to do a hard reset.

sometimes my battery is really horrible. But the last 3 days it was fine, until yesterday at the evening the battery started draining and the phone was really warm at the top. I left it running like this until the battery died out and charged it over night. Picked it up from the charger this morning 9:45 am - now it's 7:15 pm and I still have 100% battery (Was at home all day. Wifi on. Mails synced on arrival).
This is so ridiculous. :/

Have you looked in settings and back up, pretty sure that that would be a good place to start:amaze:


Do people really not look in the setting of their phone before asking a question?

The old WP issue has basically just got massively worse with 8.1. The phone (1520) will go for hours hardly draining the battery at all, then bam the phone gets red hot and in 30 mins I have no battery left. This is with no interaction with the phone as well ! Like others a reset fixes the issue temporarily but a few hours later it happens again. Today I noticed something new...most apps in the battery Saver app were showing maximum power usage in background usage, even the ones that are set not to use background !



I don't think its any one particular app, I have had a few different apps cause the sudden heat up, and force quitting them stops it till the next incident. The OS obviously had a bug the causes apps to go rough !

That is interesting. I wonder why your background tasks are doing that?

I'd have to say my battery use is just the same compared to 8.0 as far as I can tell. I've kept an eye on the battery usage. It perfectly matches my app usage patterns and shows almost nothing for background tasks.

Want to share my experience. After 8.1 update my battery life was completely unacceptable. I was willing to turn off Cortana and automatic app update. Then I noticed when I was in email that the Gmail account was always syncing, never seemed to stop. At the same time word came out about outlook.com being able to be used for other email accounts. I set this up for my Gmail and an old yahoo account, deleted those from my phone and now my battery life is pretty much back to the way it was pre-8.1. I'm willing to venture that those who aren't having battery problems don't sync a Gmail account on their phones. Worth a shot anyway.

I love the update. Many great features. Now I can use my phone all day again.

Well, I have two gmail accounts syncing and don't have issues. But perhaps syncing/account problems may cause this? Unless I spend a bit of time reading the emails the accounts hardly register on the battery usage.

Hello guys... My mobile is facing strange thing....9% battery drain per hour... Is that normal ???

Yeas its absolutely normal. You will face battery drainage issue dont worry it will give stable performance after 2to 3 weeks

Did you just upgrade or has it been a while? The phone stays busy updating apps and syncing things a bit after the upgrade.

I don't know that phone but it seems high, check the usage by apps and perhaps do a hard reset?

Also check for syncing issues with all your accounts.

I updated the phone since day one of releasing the update...until yesterday there were no problems.... Yesterday there was stupid battery drain while I was sleeping.... Every thing was closed all BG tasks are disabled.... When I woke up....i found that my phone drained 28% of battery !!!
And today....i found the mobile loses 9% every single hour.... Why is that??
Why did it start happening from yesterday?

Running 8.1 on my Lumia 1020 (on Telus Mobility in Canada) with the Region set to United States so I can use Cortana. The battery life went from 15 hours+ on WP8 to barely 7 hours on WP8.1.

Any suggestions?
