I've noticed sporadic battery life as of late, I was having issues with simple calendar which got randomly disabled - this issue is fixed now (after spam clicking the reinstall button on windowsphone.com). When I first rebooted my phone for the region change back to UK, my battery life went to 37% from 100%. Just awhile ago I tried to re-enroll to get the xap deployer working and after the first power off my battery went back upto 93%.. wth lol.

Between the soft reset and power off, the device had not been turned off or reset, the battery life did go down to 33% and did not remain static at 37%.

This is not an isolated incident either, I have noticed these issues when I have to soft reboot my phone due to change of regions from US to UK (payment via carrier billing doesn't work when phone is set to US).

I am certainly considering a hard reset now but really don't want to go down that route.

Only background tasks off.

All background tasks which were previously disabled will be re-enabled (HERE Drive for example) so make sure you disable background talks again, they have been moved to Battery Saver.

I finally got around to upgrading to the 8.1 Preview on my L920 over the weekend. No issues yet and so far everything is working as normal. I followed most of the tips and suggestions from comments on wpcentral.

I have not yet done the "hard reset and don't restore from backup" tip, as most have suggested. If I start to notice serious issues, then I will try that. My battery is not too bad yet and should get better from what I've heard. I have disabled most apps from running in the background. I have also disabled Wi-Fi Sense, Battery Saver, and Facebook.

Just a few questions on 8.1 battery life:

Should Battery Saver be turned on and enabled to run in the background? Or just leave it on and disable it? What is the popular opinion on this?

Also, if I leave Facebook enabled to run in the background I should get FB notifications in Action Center and the FB Live Tile, but I have disabled FB for now to see how battery is affected. Do most of you leave Facebook enabled now since the Me Tile no longer shows notifications?

Thanks!

Took the plunge and updated to 8.1 on my 1020. Initially I booted and migrated my data, but since it wasnt that big of a deal for me i took the extra step and hard reset the device. So far everything i've tested with works flawless, no major problems or bugs. I did not set my Country as USA (I live in Canada) so no Cortana, which im fine without. Battery life pre-hard reset was very similar to 8.0, so far after hard reset 8.1 battery is better than 8.0 for me.

I solved my heat and battery drain on my L620 by setting Glance to "peek". Previously I tried everything from disabling location, display to automatic, remove some apps from running in background to disabling Bing in lock-screen but to no avail until I read somewhere that Glace screen is also a culprit. So far it is working for me. By the way how do you hard reset a phone? I'm confused.

Settings then scroll down to about and then you will see reset.

Lumia 925. Got the 8.1 Preview the day it became available. Initially battery was great. I've had a few peaks and valleys since then. The last few days, the battery drains at a VERY HIGH rate. On Sunday, something extra odd happened, where I couldn't turn the phone on. I had to do the soft reboot (volume down + power button for 15 seconds) - not sure if that's related to the fast drain.

I'm trying to track down the source of the drain, but I don't see anything in Battery Saver (or any other tool) that makes it clear what's running in the background & using the battery "right now". I lost 10% over an hour doing nothing and I had closed (Xed) all apps that I could see. So, is there a tool that can tell me what's currently running in the background?

I found disabling Cortana made a big difference in battery life at times, strangely not always tho. Even tho it doesn't show its using alot it made a significant diff for the better most of the time. Also, I disabled IE from background tasks. Have you tied either of those? FWIW, I found the battery usage app pretty lame in accuracy.

We have 2 920's both upgraded to 8.1. My wife's uses about 1.5% per hour and mine 2.5% and hour. I have tried matching active apps but some just wont turn off. Strange! Neither % is a super bummer but I am sure curious as to why. The biggest difference is that I have just about everything I do on my calendar and my wife has very few items. I am waiting for the actual release but so far there have been no other problems although Cortana doesn't seem to do much.

Battery life is not very good with 8.1. Used to get about 1-1.5 days. Now about >1.5 days. Hoping when the Lumia Cyan updates comes Nokia/Microsoft will have fixed the problems by then.

920 user. I have about 1000+ songs in my library, and given how often Xbox Music spends "loading" my music + playing my music for 3-5 hours a day has shot my battery. Battery Sense definitely puts Xbox Music as the culprit as well. Have to charge my phone halfway through my day, when that never would happen.
