What should the ideal idle power consumption? I feel that even with the radios turned off and battery save my 920 is taking too much power.

I dont think that can be measured as a general figure. I consider 2-3%/Hour to be ideal in idle state, thats with Radio/Wifi turned on, thats with my carrier and experiences.

The first few days with 8.1 it was awful, on both my Lumias (521 and Icon). I think it must've done a lot of background stuff.

Now I get very little use... I only have the 521 as a backup phone, and it's going on 4 days since last charge, sitting unused, with cellular data off but WiFi on. My Icon with normal use gets about 15 hours. At night, it only drops maybe 10% overnight with cellular data off but WiFi on.

I guess it also matters which apps you use and what you allow to run in the background. Disabling cellular data seems to help.
For some reason, it seems that IE is a battery hog, and surprisingly so is Messaging (SMS). I get the impression that the keyboard/touch functionality of the display is using a LOT of battery, at least that's how it seems to me.

I had the same issue. I did a soft reset a couple of times and it went back to normal. No more overheating for almost a day now.

I have 920 and I also think that the problem is when I'm actively using the phone. My standby battery life is on par with 8.0, but it's when I'm using the phone, such as using apps and games. My phone gets EXTREMELY hot and battery drains at unbelievable rate, something like 100% to 60% in less than an hour for playing games (been playing Frozen Free Fall lately). Even when I"m using light apps, such as wpcentral or engaget, it drains unbelievably fast and gets hot.

Same with lumia 920, when i use the Phone for anything the battery drops so fast like 1% every 2 minutes, but in idle the battery drops like 1% - 2 hours, i guess we need cyan update

Yeah, all of this does seem basic enough so that it will be fixed with Cyan and the right drivers it will bring. I don't like my phone working like this but I'm a bit relieved because it can't possibly be this bad after the official release.

It was my first time installing an update before Nokia released theirs, so I guess this kind of things happen all the time. I'll just soldier on until the release.

I've noticed several times that I get a better charge from a laptop/PC usb port as compared to the wall charger, yes its slower but the quality is noticeable even before with WP 8. the battery duration is better when charged from a usb laptop/pc.

anyone noticed or tried?

I just applied the update (12393) yesterday to my Icon and my battery life is roughly half what it was prior to the update. Anyone else seeing this?

Still testing after update and hard reset: 3,5% battery consumption in idle with WiFi connected, data on on 3G, BT off, NFC off, location on. Apps installed and running in background: FB, messenger, Skype, Runtastic, Myfitnesspal.
The phone was not used at all.
HTC 8X on latest preview.

I have had the 1520 almost a week At first the battery life was worse than the 920 (never really had too many problems with battery life on 920. But I realized that the case I was using for my 920 with a hybrid case on it while I can use it with the 1520 I was either hitting the power button or the camera button while getting it into the case or the flap was pressing the camera button. I've tried to be more careful and have ordered a larger case (along with a 64GB microsdcard sandisk version of the 128 ) battery usage is very much improved. I also uninstall bloatware and apps I don't need for now.

I am getting some amazing battery life today compared to most days since upgrading to 8.1 about a month ago. Only thing I changed yesterday was I finally turned Battery Saver OFF. Previously it was only disabled in the background but not off. And I disabled Cortana from running, unpinned the Cortana live tile, and turned Location off.

Coming up on 7 hours off the charger and still at 100%. Mostly idle all day. Very light usage, some notifications, LTE on, screen at medium brightness, etc.

Also, I have still not done a hard reset in 8.1 or prior to the upgrade.

I would love to be able to turn off cortana as I believe she sucks battery. Does anyone know why Cortana has to be tied to quiet hours? Was really hoping this latest update was true about that relationship being severed. I need quiet hours to be functional so by default I have to have "her" on.

Maybe this will fix battery for some ... wp_ss_20140610_0001.jpg

The strangest thing happen. After 8.1 my battery on my Lumia 920 has been a disaster ( 5 -7 hours with regular usage) I tried everything ( turning cortana off ,wife, data connection, backgrounds apps you just name it everything and no results) . My main problem was not that it dried quickly but that when i wasn't doing anything it was draining like 15% an hour for no reason . When it was fully charged when i went to sleep it was like 30% when i woke up with everything turned off.

It always amazed me that it took me only like 15 - 30min to fully charge though which was not the case in 8.0 which was much longer. But there was one thing i hadn't tried was to let the phone dry out . So next morning phone was at 5% as I expected then died . I restarted the phone to FULLY dry it so what happend is that the battery shows like 50% wtf without ever been charged? I guess I'm happy now that it has been well over a 24 hours with regular usage and still at 25%. I think there is a major bug here with 8.1 but I hope cyan fixes it . Hoping my battery is back now ,will report later.

I am running 8.10.12393.890 on an AT&T branded 920 and lately it seems the phone app is killing my battery. When I go to Settings > Battery Saver > Usage the Phone is at the top and the usage bar is across the screen. I have never seen this before and only make or receive a few calls a day. I have another app that tracks battery usage and every now and then it shows the battery draining at 15% or so when I know I wasn't using the phone. I have also noticed my phone being pretty warm when I pick it up and it should have no activity.

I have seen a few other posts like this on the last few pages in this forum and wonder if anyone has any idea on what is happening? Seems like some new bug is making the phone app burn through the battery when it should be idle.

Edit: Adding screenshot to show battery usage
