Bb10

I'm interested in all the ecosystems except for iOS. Nothing against it, I've just found iOS to be boring and bland since the original iPhone. Which in turn made me uninterested in Android because Android is essentially a copy of iOS. Fortunately for Android, it has blossomed into its own unique platform. Unfortunately for Android, I'll never buy one until Google stops with the d-baggery.

But if I wasn't a poor man I'd have a PlayBook, a Surface, and maybe, just maybe, even an iPad. But I'm not a rich man so I'm gonna stick with Microsoft. I've been having a blast with WP8 and W8. My Xbox gets used nearly everyday. I plan on starting some writing projects so OneNote/Office/SkyDrive has to be in full effect. And I might grab a Surface once I get my tax return because Office comes free.

I do find myself tempted by the iphone. I think it's a well thought out phone with lots of support from Apple, plus it has all the good apps. If I had money to get a second phone it would probably be the Note 2. I really want that phone, but there's no practical way for me to justify that much money for a second device. If I was to get my contract with Verizon taken over like Laura and Palandri mentioned earlier, the chances of me getting the Note 2 would get a lot higher.

That's how I feel about Android.

I'll probably pick a BB10 device up around launch. I have 3 upgrades coming this year. BB10, WP and iOS.

That's actually how I feel about iOS. My reason for disliking iOS is due to the need for iTunes. I hated iTunes back around 4-5 years ago, and I heard it's even more bloated now. I only installed iTunes to get some free songs from Starbucks but deleted my iTunes account and removed iTunes from my PC once I got the free songs.

I'd love to have multiple devices. My 2nd choice for smartphone would be Android (probably the SGS4 which is coming). BB10 would be 3rd.

I'm getting a Windows 8 ultrabook, so that'll be my tablet. I wouldn't mind having a Chromebook too. I wish I would have gotten a Touchpad during the firesale.

I wish I could have a second device also. I would probably get the Note 2, but I would consider the iphone 5 too. On top of my high cell phone bill my wife told me when I got home earlier that she really wants another iphone. I just can't catch a break can I? :)

Just for saying that, you should get her a Jitterbug: GreatCall

I am interested in the BB10 stuff might make a nice distraction at some point but I am not interested in the launch devices. I have zero interest in iPhone so that's not an option. The iPhone 4s I had was just yaw... I am just done with Android have been for a while now. I skipped all of Android for about a year and a half went from EVO to the GS3 aside from a few Samsun apps it was still the same old widget garbage on new hardware. I hope BB10 is good at launch and has a chance to get better before BB folds.

My next device will probably be that 6.1 inch beauty they area talking about in this article.

6.1 inches isn't too big of a screen for you? If I didn't have to carry it I would probably like it.

I don't know how I'd carry it. I'd need cargo pants for it, or those pants specially designed for concealed carry of pistols. :winktongue:

It certainly wouldn't fit in the chest pocket of my winter coats, and it would be too ginormous for a belt holster.

I think it's hard to say. I'm a former BlackBerry user.

From my past experience, it's hit or miss with RIM. The Storm and Storm 2 were never anything more than a buggy mess. The 9000 was very solid.

I would also have to wait and see about the apps. RIM has made many promises re: apps, and they don't have the best track record when it comes to apps.

Even the native apps have not always been that great. Back when I used BlackBerry, I was always beta testing BBM, Twitter, etc. I also ran either a hybrid OS or an OS from a carrier overseas, since AT&T was always very slow to release updated OSes.

I also remember a bug in the VZW OS for the 9630 that led to "inappropriate" sounds playing randomly. http://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...ppropriate-sound-files-playing-new-os-447431/

My past experience with BlackBerry was that I needed to tweak it almost as much as Android users in early versions of Android. Run hybrid OS, shrink the OS, etc. just to avoid the lagging, freezing, and spinning black clock.

Granted, the new BB10 is supposed to avoid all that; however, I'm not going to believe comments posted by folks using dev alpha devices. Given my own past experience with BlackBerry, I have to try the official product myself to believe it's better.

Another thing was in BBM Groups, if one person rejoined a group after loading a new OS, everyone in the group had lagging/freezing/battery drain. The groups I belonged to actually would need to ask if it was ok to load an OS and rejoin the group, so that nobody would cause another member's device to become unusable during that time.

BBM groups were buggy like that from the very start, and they never got better. I hope they will not cause those issues in BB10.

Thank god you didn't you Windows Mobile! Haha.

Being honest, without listening to any one (which I honestly haven't), I know BB10 will be good. Will they get another shot? Not sure.

My mom's neighbor still has a Samsung Jack, believe it or not.

I used Symbian back when WinMo was popular.

I don't have iTunes installed on my PC any more. In fact, I don't even have my HD (that has my music library) connected to my PC any more. Only have the SSD.

So there is no need for iTunes. The need for it stopped with iOS 5.

Sprint has mixed reviews. It seems like people around here love them or hate them, not much middle ground. I called Verizon and my etf is $590. I might cancel my home connect line I have. The etf is around $100 and that would save me $20/month.

Wait until Sprint rolls out LTE in more areas. Their 3G is garbage! Yes, I work for them and since it's back here, I'll say that.

The LTE is non-existent. I'm in NYC ffs and none of it. I'm tired of "it's coming... the storm pushed the full roll-out back in NYC". I almost believe it, saying it so much to customers.

I doubt I go with Sprint. With Verizon or AT&T coverage is good in so many more areas. As far as LTE, Verizon is the only carrier with it in my area.

Thanks! I did not know that. I thought that iTunes was necessary for managing music, even if the music was purchased elsewhere. That's good to know it isn't needed anymore.

I have to get a new TV with my tax money instead. The one in my room from 2004 is just horrible, not everything fits on screen.

If I were to get a second device it would probably be a BB. You should get the wife an 8X, 822 or odyssey. T-mobile coverage in your area looks pretty decent, not as expansive as it is in my area tho.

I would love to get a WP for my wife, but she wants an iPhone. She had the 4 and is using an HTC Rezound right now. As far as T-Mobile in my area in Lake Charles it is ok, but not at my house, that is if the coverage map is accurate.

Only difference is that the 3G aka FauxG for att is fast unlike the cdma 3G (EVDO).

Will iPhones play .mp4 or do videos still need to be converted to proprietary .mkv format? Is Quicktime needed? I hate Quicktime as much as I hate iTunes.

I don't have any issues with Verizon 3G. Streaming YouTube isn't a problem unless you want to watch HD. I know AT&T has faster 3G speeds, but the service I get with Verizon is more reliable for me.
