It could be something as easy as swipe from left to right opens hamburger menu (you can open it from the icon If you want) and swipe from right to left has pivot function as would be logical. There'd be to decide whether a left to right swipe opens the hamb menu only on the beginning of the "pivot cycle" or at any screen". In my opinion it's better only at the beginning/first screen.

I like this idea, I would also imagine the pivots would show only when the primary input method is touch (I.e. For phones, tablets, and hybrid laptops in undocked/tablet mode). In desktop mode where the primary input method is keyboard and mouse, the is only the hamburger menu.
